I keep a couple pillows in the bus- if I wanted to rough it I'd go backpacking instead of rolling in an enclosed vehicle that includes a cooler, stove, sink and two beds. I don't have a dog but when I did I just washed the pillow cases at home like I do the ones on my bed.
No incense; I don't want anyone thinking I'm a damn dirty hippie. _________________ '78 Westy

I made some curtains out of some extra curtain material I had.
Rather than incense have you tried deodorant? I prefer the smells of camping rather than the smell of campers. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

I try to remember a pillow but my fleece jacket often gets used...

1: Some cheap pillow. I don't use one under my head anyway. It's always either under my shoulders or lumbar. If I don't have a pillow I use clothes or whatever.
2: I prefer the smell of nature mingled with the smell of engine, horsehair and whatever else that indefinable VW scent is. _________________ Vehicle: 1975 Special order delivery walkthrough panel based pop-top camper (LCA / Sunliner). You would most likely like my incense burner then.

My pillows stay with the bus... Full sized... I'm not hurting for room when i go camping so why not be comfortable....
No pets camping... that's why i go camping...... to get away from needy things...
No incense.... a good dinner of Beer, Brats and Sauerkraut provide all the smells for your camping pleasure..
And for baths.....

The real question is, how do I get into the bathtub? |
Hang it off the side of the roof rack, nothing like an open air shower
As far as incense, i go with Ode' d Vols Wagen ( smels like gas and burning / leaking oil on the heat exchangers)
OR
Iron Athlete.... smells like some one that has been swimming in the ocean or a neoprene wetsuit, been in the sun on the bike for a reasonable distance of 56 - 112 miles, and smellu shoes from a half or full marathon

Wow! In all the Dead shows I've been to,the hippies use patchouli to get rid of the dog smells.
(1) pillows, I'm not as young and pliable as I used to be.
(2) no incense, all the other above listed aromas are all I've ever needed.
BTW hazetguy, I've been staring at your avatar and if I squint just right I can see dolphins or killer whales or something. |

thanks for all the replies.
the pic that pep242 posted would drive me crazy. that is a LOT of wasted space when the top is not popped. i think i am going to stick with my rolled up jacket or blanket for the pillow. i do like the inflatable pillow idea too, maybe i'll look into that.
as far as the incense goes: i don't often burn it in the bus. i burn it outside just to add to the general aroma of the outdoors. although occasionally it is nice to cover the sometimes overpowering stench of a campfire inside the bus. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

I bring like 6 pillows, 4 are about 18 inches square and 2 from the house
(real pillows) we like the plush soft Arabian tent feel.
Incense....nag champa. patchouli and a little of what mother nature gave us is what I use.

since my bus isn't running yet, i can't take it camping.
besides it wont hold my queen sized adjustable bed
so i have a 21 X 10 tent
I like my comfort.
plus all my kitchen gear
the kitchen sink

If you ditch the incense and just burn the hopes and dreams of wide-eyed children, you'll sleep so soundly you won't need a pillow at all. _________________ Not enough car seats fit into my:

1) The jack bag filled with jack and assorted tools has always served me well.
2) I recommend burning gear oil, everyone thinks it smells so bad, but they are oh so wrong. |

I pack my pillow in that space between the pop top ceiling and the upper bed (beyond the section that gets folded over). There is a little space of "air" there. Actually, I pack a pillow and a comforter in that space. It gets smushed a little when the pop top is closed, but I just shake them out and they are fluffy and good to go. _________________ "The large print giveth and the small print taketh away."

That's pretty good. Because mine is a straight up pop top it has one of those concertina plywood slat setups. I keep that up there because I can't find anywhere better for it.
I also keep a very good quality very low temp rated sleeping bag under the back seat for just in case. I also used to keep a can of spam, some water and some matches in the car for just in case. _________________ Vehicle: 1975 Special order delivery walkthrough panel based pop-top camper (LCA / Sunliner). Hey, cool shower setup! Using the same gutter clips as your "light poles"? I like the rock base - that's a nice outdoor touch.
I have my entire shower kit made to pack into a 2'x3' tote that's about 6" high. Travels well this way and keeps everything together, but then I use the tote as my shower base. Keeps you out of the mud, plus you can dump the water elsewhere to keep the campsite dry.

Yeah this thing worked great...... I've been wanting to make a Bamboo rack to stand on but haven't yet..... Where i was camping in Oklahoma had plenty of flat rocks..... they worked awesome....... I originally built the shower for mounting on the back of a bus but i tried it on the side and it worked better...
