|

I had posted here before about how I was trying to find a mid-engine rail frame to use as a base for a hot street racer. I'd gone back and forth on a-arm or 5-link rear suspensions plus provisions for Subaru motor/transmission mounts but it was just too much of an alteration for frames that really had been designed for off-road use.
Well, look at what I stumbled into -
http://exocars.net/showthread.php?t=5590
This will be my vehicle platform! I have already received my order form. The complete kit (95% of what you'll need, less motor and transmission) is only 13K.
That includes frame, body, suspension, brakes, wheels/tires, seats, instrument panel, steering rack/column/wheel, lights, wiring harness, on and on.
Check it out. This thing is very cool!

An Ariel Atom clone that I found out about a month ago... just happens that first build is playing with a T4 motor -

Neat stuff... thought it was going to be a T4-engined Triumph replica, and now I see that it's a VW/Porsche-powered Ariel Atom clone. Cool idea... mind if I add this kit to my kit-car resource thread when I learn more about it? |

Those front and rear aluminum A-arms are tasty. Polished, they'd be amazing. I wonder what they're out of, maybe a Supra or Lexus or something similar? |

Look like GM parts - maybe Solstice?

I really like those Solstice parts. The chassis looks like a perfect set up for a Subaru front drivetrain, mounted mid-engine. I think it would be a fraction of the cost of a hot 914 drivetrain, quieter too. Something like that would make a great chassis for a Kickout SS. |

The body is just artist renderings right now, as soon as the guy working on it says I can Ill post it up (artists/designers are strange about their stuff )
We are with you on the Suby! in fact this is a 280hp Suby version going together now and Martkat's is next with 300+

Yes - we designers can be a strange bunch... after you've had your design work 'borrowed' illegally, you tend to get a bit conservative on revealing your designs before they are trademarked or copyrighted. I've had design work 'borrowed' over the past 25 years+; it's not fun to fight the other guy over his stealing of your efforts... I've often wondered how Simon Saunders feels about all the 'clone variations' of his Ariel Atom design concept -

Have your girlfriend keep her long hair under her hat when she goes for a ride. She might not look as good after that fan intake scalps her.
All kidding aside, I saw an Atom at a car show last summer and started noodling about a tube frame street car like it. Really just needs a windshield frame and some body panels rather than a complete body like our FG buggies. A basket case 914 is a good start for a donor car, its already set up for a mid engine T4. |

Seriously, you should think about getting a Kickout SS, taking out the back seat and making this type of chassis which uses the Solstice suspension components and a mid-engine Subaru drivetrain. Then you should try to partner up with Meyers Manx and sell them together as a package.

BL -
I think the wheelbase would be a problem with trying to use the Kickout as-is, especially where the Subaru motor would be jammed into the seat back area...
