Hey Samba people.
I've been after this 1968 double cab for a few years now. Finally was able to make the deal happen.

7 hour drive from my place in Illinois to Port Wing, Wisconsin. We started the journey at 12:30 am. The owner graciously unearthed it from its 25 year slumber a few days before I made the trip. As you can see, it was a very tight fit.

Just enough dust wiped off to see. Believe it or not he got it running and drove it out to the carport so we could easily pick it up. The brakes still work too!

Had to take a photo by lake superior!

We hit a few rain storms on the way home which nicely washed most of the dust away.

Finally home in the garage.

I'm totally wiped and cant think right now. Maybe I'll start a thread tomorrow with more details and pictures.
Thanks for looking

Finally brought home a '72 Westy that was part of a 2 Westy deal I made back in November (page 89 of this topic), pretty rough shape:

It has been sitting since 1995

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It took some good HARD tugs from the rental truck to break it free, 2 wheels need changing, brakes were a bit frozen...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Rolled it down the driveway, used the truck to pull it up on the trailer.

And got that rusty Biotch home....

160 miles, 7 hours driving/load/unload, then bring the rental back. I'm toast.. Shocked

Hello,
Great job on the extraction.
Are you sure you have a 72 westy there?, shouldn't it have low lights up front and not the air vent height ones?.
I guess the complete nose could've been replaced.... body seams above fnt. bumper....
Must be an 73 model for the pop top is in the front. Built late 72.

What’s wrong with the Dodge? I thought that was the bus Vermont recovery vehicle.

It looks like it had a nose job a long time ago, the vin says '72, no above engine access hatch, pop-top hinges at front, like all '68-'72's.
Dan, the Dodge needs a trans rebuild and the guy that will do it is swamped, all his crew went on unemployment for the extra $600.
The funny part is/was, the seller wanted to back out of the deal, AFTER I got the '79 home, it was his bus for many years & he was going to keep it, to try & sell it for more $$.... I waited thru the Winter since I could not get at it where it was parked, once the snow was gone, I got on his case- he never responded to my emails or calls- Finally he contacted me said to come get it last week. Both are going up for sale soon, the '72 will probably be a Parts Bus.
Also, my Father-in-law gave us his '72 Westy 35 years ago, as a wedding gift Rolling Eyes it was a rotted out POS too....... funny how things come around.

Picked up a CE2, slider is damaged and it has the usual Northeast rust but I will get the engine/tranny installed and drive it! Very complete champagne, definitely worried about the rust issues, but the frame is good.

From my untrained eyes, the rust doesn't look too bad from the pics.
Get it running and drive it whenever you can! Get out there and have fun with it! Dancing

I finally got one of the four buses home that I bought last year in Iowa.
1970 tintop westy. The 64 11 window will get pulled home tomorrow. We had to use a drum puller on all 8 drums. What a great way to spend a miserably hot day!
