Man, that seems expensive for a JC Whitney part. How much are the Shadyboy awnings in comparison? _________________ Joe Vanagon

These awnings hang in a long thin bag if kept on the vehicle. You see them a lot on tent trailers. I have a friend who has a similar one for his 4 Wheel Camper on his pickup. I'm not sure how you would mount it on a Vanagon as it has a metal track that the awing slides into that is mounted on the side of the camper. |

I have an awning track on SB but I'm thinking of taking it off. Looks crappy.
The ad for what you are asking is that it is 6'. 6 ft is not really enough to create shade and/or protect from elements. I don't know how stable they'd be in high winds. It's like $400.00 to close it in and again that's not very big. Just my opinion. I think you can do better. I have a 10 X 10 that I'm anxious to try out. It's the same one that racers use. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

"...any real world experience..."
The real caution I'd give here is that size really does matter. I started out with a 7-foot awning and progressed to a 10-foot. Does not sound like much difference until you realize that the coverage area difference is more than double (100 square feet vs. 49). The one you mention is a 6-foot and that may give far less shade/shelter than you'd like to have. If you must have a bag awning like this check with RV stores for longer ones. |
