SHOUT OUT!!! Anyone who has followed this thread knows that Greg pretty much rebuilt the whole van, inside and out. He designed and made many parts himself, but we also got a box from GoWesty just about once a week once the van started coming together. We knew before we left home that we were going to stop by and see the folks that provided so many quality parts, and we were ecstatic when we joined GoWesty’s list of Sponsored Adventurers!
Greg’s perfectionism meant that we didn’t have much left to add by the time we got to California, but GoWesty put some finishing touches on the van that took it from ‘gearing up in California’ to ‘on the road in Mexico.’ We had good times with these good people, and we left with some good parts. It was the first time Greg trusted anyone else to touch the van, but we knew it was in good hands.
They’ve also taken great care of us since then…the only parts that have busted along the way were the only original ones that Greg didn’t replace or redesign, and GoWesty came to the rescue. A new coolant expansion tank, a new power steering tank, and power steering rack got us back on the road. All this is on top of the parts that we ordered from them before we were official Westy Adventurers, which are sprinkled throughout this thread. Their passion for Westys and adventure shows in the quality of their products and their enthusiasm for trips like ours.
Here’s NON-exhaustive list of the things we love from GoWesty.
the front skid plate, which has saved our from these crazy roads AND serves as extra storage
the high lift jack, for getting out of the occasional sand trap
a skylight cover so we can sleep in
high beam kit
air compressor
fresh transmission oil
balance and alignment
USB ports installed
the poptop rainfly
waterproof roofrack bags
mosquito screens
some seriously good quality swag that we wear most days
all sorts of spare parts, just in case

THANKS GOWESTY !!!! |
Gotta give GoWesty props for so much awesome stuff. I'm placing an order with them for some stuff later tonight, what's the coupon code for the Greg discount ?

Send them a sponsorship letter. They are serious about their sponsored adventurers!
Tell them what you plan to do for a year and a half and see with them... I mean your van is nice and you guys are doing some awesome stuff!! Good exposure, good content, all good!!
Make sure you make a good instagram with the prep of the van etc..
Cheers

Working hard to get the van back to the other side of the Darien gap...
|
Been reading this thread since the first post. Fantastic work and adventure. After seeing all of the work you put into this trip I couldn't understand why you were transporting around the gap. I googled it and read this about it:

Looks like another well thought out move. Safe travels, and thanks for the excellent thread! |

Happy 2017!
Anybody has a spare Syncro transmission for sale? 4.86:1 I'd like to take mine down to machine more cooling chanels and add sensors. This would be hooked up to the ECU if it goes beyond a certain temperature the ECU would cut half the power to protect the transmission.

I was wondering if you could do that with the bench seat/bed!
Outstanding that you have the latches for sale. I'll be getting some. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
