Thank you! I'm pretty excited about that one! dimensions look promising. I'll do whatever it takes though because I feel very good about that one
check this out! stock r&P will give that. okay it's 6mph in 1st and as a Syncro owner I'd like to get it lower for crawling
BUT!!! with a 6.17 r&p which could be still huge R&P in there it will look like this on the gears
Which would be the absolute dream scenario

What's the real world availability of this gear box? Keep up the research I'm intrigued. |

The twin turbo in the title must be a compound setup, right? _________________ Casey--

As great an idea as the PDK may seem, Porsche is a nightmare marque to deal with .. almost as bad as Ferrari. That model PDK trans (open diff) has both shift rail and electronics issues, and fail with regularity ... and Porsche won't even service them, only replace the entire trans. You can't even purchase replacement diff bearings, as they are a proprietary item. (To have SKF manufacture the bearing would be a $60,000 minimum order.) _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

This has LSD and abundant presence on used market for about 5-6k
Also a group of PDK guys started the full manual and part number . Most of the problematic parts are the solenoid and are available for $20 a piece.
And also worst case scenario Porsche sell the. New complete for 19k
Which is about the price of a Syncro rebuild shit the top parts of today's builders 😭 _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

My Porsche counterpart tells me the PDK LSD has oiling holes at the top, while the open diff does not ..

Not entirely true, I was a Porsche tech for a few years and I serviced the transmissions regularly, infact PDK service is part of the service plan (mileage dependant based on vehicle). While i agree the PDK definitely has is issues, majority of issues i saw were software related... the biggest flaw i came across quite a bit was finding the connectors on the side of the trans to be filled with trans fluid... |

I've been out of that scene since '09, so really don't know ANYthing first hand. But I certainly wish the best for any effort toward creating the ultimate Syncro Vanagon .. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

Yes that's exactly right and all of these software issues are inexistent with the racing Transmission controller. Anyway I'm pretty excited whatever the challenge is. So far with all I have seen this would fit my needs the best especially if I get this 6.17 R&p built for it _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

This is way cool! What is your plan for the front end/diff? _________________ Insta: @el_chorrito_project |

Fit the front diff that's in the Porsche. Then the second phase would be to look if a portal axle could be designed to match a Syncro front diff such as the 6.17:1
That would require a drop in the portal of almost 2x but then we would get thanks to the 7 speed 2.5MPH in first (very granny gear) and 75MPH cruising speed in 7th!! .
VerY pumped about the bone stock parts right now but with the portal rear and 6.17 front locker front + LSD locker rear in PDK ( currently stock has a LSD fully locking diff) + use Cisco coupler from stock from Syncro diff ( that's where it is in PDK front diff)
Talk soon! _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

Nice stuff Greg!
I went through a lot of trans research for my tdi build when I found that the stock transaxles just arent up to play with any sort of real power.
I ended up with the flipped passat box but with the awd, this seems like a great solution for 4wd. Especially with the lsd.
I'm assuming these are CANbus controlled. Are you offering controllers for these?
Love the level of engineering you are able to pull off. Keep up the great work. |
