I know it's getting into the details but....if first gear is about the same is it the same as???
On 215/75/15 my 1st gear with a 6.17 r/p is similar to the G (low) on my 4.86.
Very cool, nice job, love to see the progression on the LT |

Very impressive, Greg! That transmission fits really nicely in the available space. Looks like you're able to mount it without modifying the transverse beam, which is really desirable. It's interesting how well the output flanges line up with the rear axle center line. I know with those 991 generation 911s they started putting the output shafts as close to the bell housing as possible and I would have thought that would have put them behind the axle center line, but it looks like they are perfectly placed for this installation.
Looking forward to seeing this come together! |

Outstanding how much development work you've done - from the bug, to the vanagon, and the LT.
keep it up!! |

@ CakeDiesel
I was going the same route with the Allroad “lowgear” transmission and the 180 flip adapter plate I have in my possession for awhile but this seems to be the “Holy Grail” of conversions. Greg makes the impossible possible. 🤣 |

Nice stuff Greg!
I went through a lot of trans research for my tdi build when I found that the stock transaxles just arent up to play with any sort of real power.
I ended up with the flipped passat box but with the awd, this seems like a great solution for 4wd. Especially with the lsd.
I'm assuming these are CANbus controlled. Are you offering controllers for these?
Love the level of engineering you are able to pull off. Keep up the great work. |

This is way cool! What is your plan for the front end/diff? |
Fit the front diff that's in the Porsche. Then the second phase would be to look if a portal axle could be designed to match a Syncro front diff such as the 6.17:1
That would require a drop in the portal of almost 2x but then we would get thanks to the 7 speed 2.5MPH in first (very granny gear) and 75MPH cruising speed in 7th!! .
VerY pumped about the bone stock parts right now but with the portal rear and 6.17 front locker front + LSD locker rear in PDK ( currently stock has a LSD fully locking diff) + use Cisco coupler from stock from Syncro diff ( that's where it is in PDK front diff)
Talk soon! _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

Not entirely true, I was a Porsche tech for a few years and I serviced the transmissions regularly, infact PDK service is part of the service plan (mileage dependant based on vehicle). While i agree the PDK definitely has is issues, majority of issues i saw were software related... the biggest flaw i came across quite a bit was finding the connectors on the side of the trans to be filled with trans fluid... |
Yes that's exactly right and all of these software issues are inexistent with the racing Transmission controller. Anyway I'm pretty excited whatever the challenge is. So far with all I have seen this would fit my needs the best especially if I get this 6.17 R&p built for it _________________ conversions: www.boxeer.com Common rail TDI and NOW PDK transmissions!!

I've been out of that scene since '09, so really don't know ANYthing first hand. But I certainly wish the best for any effort toward creating the ultimate Syncro Vanagon .. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

My Porsche counterpart tells me the PDK LSD has oiling holes at the top, while the open diff does not ..
