i just bought this car. forest find from sweden, been here for 3years or so. guy couldn't continue with the resto - so i bought it to continue. let's hope it gets finished within a year or two.
i'd appreciate where to buy new parts (body mainly etc) in europe, all the best and thank you in advance! |
Welcome to the Samba Gustav. That Ghia looks like a '66 model with the mechanical fuel gauge, large radio opening and trim over the light/wiper switches. We look forwards to seeing progress and invite you to open a thread for your work. Any questions are welcomed.

Many thanks Nicholas. it might take some time as i'm doing another resto project now (912), but bought this Ghia as it appeared like 15km from my place and for a seriously good price with some work done + some parts available.
my vin is 146 349 773, engine: FO 297 830. - so you seem right about 66model, but could've been made in oct/nov 1965 i guess

Hi Gusatv
That's quite possible. The model years run from August, presumably because the factory could re-tool during the summer break each year. Mine is from 2nd week in May and has vin # 146 845 nnn. Yours with a lower number could be from late 1965. One clue could be the trim for the winscreen. This changed partway through 1966 from the "C" channel to the "T" channel. l'm guessing the Christmas break would have be a practical time for implementation of that change.

Here's mine: '74 Vert.
I picked her up in Dallas/Ft. Worth. She looks good but has "details" that need to be addressed. I'd like to start a thread on her and document what there is and where I want to go with her. I've decided to christen her "Lil Bi***"
I also have a '67 Vert that I've owned since '07. He's in way different shape and I believe I'm going to "Ratrod" him. We christened him "Lil Bastard" back when I first got him.

Beautiful car well restored, as I've mentioned before. How about posting a few pics with your Ghia at the Vic Falls, or in Huange with some elephant, to show the car off in Zimbabwe's great countryside? The Zimbabwe Ruins, the Matopos; you have so many to choose from. Or you could do a "John Moxon" and take a pic of the Ghia just as the train crosses the bridge at the Falls. I, for one, cannot wait. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Here's mine. It's a 64' and painted Ruby Red. The only thing(s) not stock are the Vintage Speed shifter, their exhaust, NOS 83mm Kolbeschmidt big bore kit and the horn button.
House of Ghia just completed the restoration on Fathers Day and the engine was built by the best builder on this planet and good friend Larry Govin.

Hi everybody! I just wanted to share some pics of my new Ghia convertible with you! This is also my first post in this forum. Having owned a 1302 Beetle for 12 years, it was the time to expand and buy a second VW
This was bought here in Belgium but originaly exported to the USA in 1967.
Some things to do to get her in perfect condition, but I can enjoy her already!

Hi Tom, Welcome to The Samba.
Your Ghia looks to be in good shape...is a recent restoration? Looks like you're in a good location for VW expertise too, with BBT on your doorstep.
If you like to tell your Ghia's story, feel free to start a fresh topic about it. _________________ John.

Hey 64VolkSwaggin', that's a sweet old school Cal-Look Karmann Ghia you've got there ... and a sweet user name as well.
Back in the 80s, I had many a dream of owning a Ghia in that exact color.
From what I can see in the pics, you did a nice job of fabricating that custom sun visor.
Now whenever someone sees your car, instead of asking "What kind of car is that?", they'll be asking "What's a Karmann Ghia?".

My 68. I've had her for 4 months and spent that time getting her running and replacing missing parts. I thought she looked good enough to share now.

I took my Ghia out in the rain yesterday - but nothing like what's coming down in Texas.
No leaks. I hope our Ghia friends in Texas are safe. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
