Just noticing how popular this topic has gotten lately.
It appears that all of our OEM Steering Couplers lasted about 45 years.
And now we all have to replace them all at once! |

Finally got around to installing it, not too bad a job. My coupler was pretty shot.
The far right is the bus depot version.

Has anyone found a Canadian source for quality versions of these? once you add shipping and convert to CAD, that little piece of rubber gets expensive! _________________ 77 Westfalia + 2 dogs = good life. |

Think I got the last 2 OE ones from CIP1.ca back on page 7. Now they only show the repro one. Maybe try German Supply? _________________ 1979 Westfalia "FireFly" Subaru 2.2 with Subaru gears 5spd.

A friend of mine had issues getting stuff from German Supply twice, so I've been leery to use them- was it just him? Or is it a common complaint?
edit - it's out of stock anyhow and $72 plus shipping. _________________ 77 Westfalia + 2 dogs = good life. |

Not just your friend. Read his feedback before you decide. I have only ever called and picked up in person and have had great results. As it's out of stock guess it doesn't matter for this purchase, but for your future purchases have a look _________________ 1979 Westfalia "FireFly" Subaru 2.2 with Subaru gears 5spd.

it's hot out..
got the steering coupler installed, fits really well thankfully.
There is some SERIOUS slop in my steering, the steering wheel travels a good distance before any real steering takes place at the wheels.
Guess I should look at the damper, center pin, drag link, tie rods & steering box..... anything else I'm not thinking of? |

Hey, I thought I ordered the last one.
I see now that there must be yet another last one.
I guess we'll see if this is the real VW thing. _________________ John

Never trust the ads. Trust nothing verify everything.
For those future searchers. The Steering Coupling Disc part number is in the thread title and subject line of every post.

well then, glad I never ordered one! And it seemed like a good deal!
So, if not that one, is there a bus version that is quality that won't run me $72 plus shipping and tax like at German Supply? Seems crazy to pay upwards of $100 for that _________________ 77 Westfalia + 2 dogs = good life. |
