I would rather chuck the motor into a field than hack up my type 3 to stick in a WBX. :2gunfire:

Dredward you are missing a syncro in your signature line. Gotta update Wink

I chucked the aircooled into the field and put a 1.9 in my bug. Nothing on Bug has been hacked up to do this. These engines have a very smooth power band and make a great power plant in the old VW's. I get about 31 MPG and have good heat.

I've always wanted to do a wasserboxer bug or Karmann Ghia but I just don't have the time. The wasserboxer is a great engine, once you forgive it for the water jacket seal design. It's just overburdoned in a 3500+ lb van.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say "great", but it really represents the pinnacle of robustness in VAG's long series of flat-fours.

An NA engine may be "over-burdened", but I think these things will wake right up if lightly boosted. I'm giving serious consideration to recreating another member's project by swapping over the engine management system from a Volvo 7-series turbo engine. I think I can nab all the associated parts for <$100 at the local Pick-a-Part. Then it's just head-scratching, dedicated time and enduring my sloppy Mig welds. I think a reliable 130hp-150hp output is an achievable goal, without breaking into the longblock. Beyond that, it's probably time for a programmable EFI.

The t3 looks nice....but If I where going to spend the $ I'd machine the waterjackets down and make the wbx a aircooler, you can make some pretty sick aircooled motors this way.

343HP (373lb/ft) of torque = 11.81 1/4 mile. I'd say that's pretty sick

Those are some respectable #'s! The turbo bits can be had from places like c.b. performance or custom like the one pictured.
To the person talking about makeing the water boxer air cooled: WHY!

I have visions of my 2.1 WBXer in a Manx style buggy.

This radiator mount solves the bigger problem for me.

Thanks!

31 mpg? serious?
wow.

It sure is! Over 100hp more than an SVX or H6 Subaru! No way a Syncro trans would hold that kind of HP for long though.

Maybe I should stick a WBX in my Thing?

Keep this up and our old recycled WBXers will increase in value!
