My new Bonneville engine

84mm CB crank
94 AA forged slipperskirts
CB Hbeam 5.600 rods
CB Aluminum case with 3.5mm raise decks
CB lightweight lifters
SLR 316 cam with .615 lift at valves
CB straight cut gears
CB 1.4 rockers
Manton 3/8 pushrods
Comp Eliminator heads 46x38 with LT1 springs ported by me
match ported manifolds
48IDF Webers with 44mm venturii
Bugpack 1 3/4 header with stinger and AFR
Compression set at 11.8:1
Compufire DIS
Full flow filter

Not a very streetable engine. that may change with smaller venturi. Nothing below 2000rpm after that it pulls like a train. It never quit accelerating out to a mile and a quarter at 124mph when I lifted. No dyno sheet yet, but those in the know figure around 225.

That was a pretty wicked looking ride Brad!

Is it my imagination or was it having traction problems?

2332cc, Weber IDA 48's, Paradise Motorsports.

Built as a street motor with focus on driveability.

Big thanks to Jason and Kris Lauffer for the long block build, tune, and dyno.

I really like the sound that makes. What muffler are you using?

Thanks. Exhaust is a A1 Performance Exhaust, sidewinder header and muffler.

Tiger at A-1 had to custom make the header for this motor going into the split. Needed a tighter radius (blue tape) to clear the rear apron.

i liked the single carb build post the best, since that is what i'm most likely to do on a engine. Make it strong, but keep it simple. i'm new to VW's so maybe dual carbs won't scare after awhile.... but for now what i really like about my Bug is the simplicity....

Seeing all these awesome big engines kinda made me want to toss in a nice little one to the mix, too. This can be built on a budget with great results. It's similar to Jake's build... just a simple 110 cam with stock solid shaft rockers and a very mild compression ratio.

Super flat torque curve. Very drivable motor. Adds a little zing without needing a divorce after the wife gets the credit card bill. Slip-in thick-wall 88mm cylinders will slide right into the engine case with no machining, and are thicker than 90.5's for longevity. Heads need to be opened up for 90.5/92mm sized jugs.

... Add a 74mm crank and you really have a nice little combo...

Zero deck at the top of the cylinder
.040" coppeer shim makes for 9.5:1 C/R
Shadek 26mm pump, berg relief cover
Full flow oiling, Dog house shroud and cooler

How does that compare to your old turbo motor?
Did you ever dyno the turbo engine?

Both are very nice!

The long block had a cylinder leak, that's why I couldn't ever get it to work like it should have. I failed at going thru the motor prior to the addition of turbo junk. Laughing This new motor runs circles around the turbo set up. Turbo motor dyno'd at about 140hp at the wheels at 7lbs of boost. The n/a is more what I like, I've decided. Snappy, nasty, instant response, etc... I'm happier at the moment and it's less headache I feel.

What do you think those numbers would look like with a turbo added on?
