I did a rebuild on the carb in my 71 super. It starts up fine, but it has a flat spot when I hit the gas. If I force the choke to stay closed just a little, it gets rid of the flat spot. Once the chocke opens all the way up, it starts to run rough. How do I adjust for this?
Thanks

You are obviously sucking in more air then you need. What type and size of carb do you have? If it's a standard 30 pict, it may just have a volume control screw on it and you may be too rich. If it has a volume and bypass, you may have to tweak with both.
The standard way to adjust any Solex carb is to turn the the volume control up (to the left) until the idle stops increasing. Then turn the volume control screw back down (right) only until the idle starts to go back down. The turn it back maybe an eighth or a quarter turn back to the left. Adjust the idle from the bypass or on older carbs, from the idle screw that hits the choke lever. |

Pull your carb and while looking down through it... pull the throttle arm down. Is there a steady stream of gas shooting down through the brass u shaped tube. probably not.
If that's the case check the diaphram gasket on the side of the carb (replace if crunchy) If that seems fine the passageway is cloged at somewhere betweed the fuel bowl and that overhang unit.
