Does anyone know how this swamp cooler is mounted into the window? Is there a kit for this, or was the frame/glass of this bus cut out to accommodate the outlet? Did VW make these back in the day?

This has to be a custom window frame setup. Notice the bottom tab on the support rod. Looks to be at least spot welded to the frame.

Inside is a squirl cage or bail wrapped with a straw like mat that is "spring loaded"you pull the string and it rotates the cage through the water as you drive air comes across the wet straw mat cooling the air.they work really well in dry climates.just pull the string every 10 or 15 minutes.adding ice helps even better.when you are stopped no air is comming thru the cooler.same principle as evaporative cooler sold at home depot or lowes, but they use an elecrtic pump to get the pads wet.hope that makes sense

those were a dealer item and only made for roll up widows, so anything you do to make one fit a spilt is a #### job.

niether one pictured is the Vw cooler, believe it or not they didn't cool down a damn thing unless you were doing 60+ mph. and thats in a car..

ok they would cool, IF it was blowing right on YOU.
The only time they look cool is sitting in a car show.

just go buy a $100 wal mart AC unit a 299 $ colman generator, cut a hole in the damn roof and Then

Be Happy

When it's 105* you take what little you can get from whatever source you can get it.

Talk about a shit job, your idea is the pinnacle, but it looks like it's working for your Lincoln. Be happy. Wink

Not affiliated but linked to show models: http://www.theoldcollectorsgarage.com/carparts/original-1940s-50s-swamp-coolers..htm

Allstate could be bought from Sears.

My great uncle always had one in his cars. If I cupped my hands and stuck my face right into the output air it was cooler. Then I'd get yelled at for Bogarting the cool. It was my job to fill it with the radiator hose at gas stops. It smelled dank.
