My friend that does most of the body work for my shop is a long time VW guy like most of us here. His every day ride is a Vanagon. He just finished working on a 1987 camper for me and as partial payment I gave him an old 1986 passenger van. He's only had it a few days and look at what he's done. It will probably be a long slow build as he needs to do work that pays his bills also. His shop is in Hudson NY and is one of those great one man shops you find once in a while. He does amazing rust repair on (I can post pictures of that as well if anyone wants).

Anyone like to see the whole build here?

WHAT!!! The genius of Samba members never ceases to amaze me. Can't find one? Fark it, build your own. Now that's cool.

Hell yeah! I especially want to see how he massages the slider into a side door.

By the by, a friend called to report that he had seen an entire Vanagon shell at a junkyard which looked pretty good. He was a little deflated when I told him it was the remains of the Syncro I had parted and apparently it has not been crushed yet. If your friend needs any panel cuts, I might be able to still get them.

Imagine if someone comes out with a kit.
A cutting template.
Some preformed sheet metal to close in the cab.
A little bit of this and that, and your off....

Not it Very Happy

Super cool concept. I have seen the maroon svx one in person a couple times. I think it would be cool towing a 5th wheel westy trailer.

Good job. Stay motivated!!

that might be a bit optimistic...I'd settle for a bed and tailgate.
I'm surprised no one thought of this before.
I want a Dokagon!!!

There will be no drop gates, just a tail gate. The plan is to make it like the photochop by Loogy. (thanks Loogy)

He came over the other day and I donated the piece from that red van. The "treasure chest" access will be from the inside only (under the rear seat)

OH YES!!! I am so excited to see this come to life. Not to toot my own tooter, but I love the way the Photochop looks. I hope that it translates into real life as well or better.

You guys will obviously beat me to the finished product, but I may just have to copy the copy of my original design.

If you can swing it, please include as many build photos as possible. I love build photos!
