Is it not DOT reg that propane tanks be painted white or silver?
Or is that just a suggestion?

You should check before you get harassed by a trooper or worse, denied boarding on a ferry while on a nice family vacation.

Makes sense, so after Googling-
Propane expands 1.5% every 10*F by volume., and-
http://www.propane101.com/propanetankcolor.htm

I'd think of repainting.
Good call Buildyourown.

The LPG rail cars around here are black. I've always wondered why as it seems contrary to intuition. I guess it doesn't matter that much.

Spectacular information.. I'm actually ordering the extrasized tank here quick... and will be definitely painting that tank black! Nice straps and information about how you tackled this one!

This thread is immensely informative. I plan to put a stove in my van and eventually down the road a Propex, and I've been wrestling mentally with how to handle an external tank. I have a tin top Syncro and I WILL be taking it off road - is the XL tank too big? How much does the stock Westy tank reduce ground clearance? Would you make a skid plate just for the tank or is that crazy?

You need to talk to: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=182265

I think they have done something as you describe?

For those who got in on this deal (we are down to just a few tanks left now), you may be interested in knowing that we just got a similar factory close-out deal on Extend-A-Stay kits to go with them. This allows you to add a second propane tank - another RV tank, a gas grill tank, or (with an inexpensive adapter) even a disposable portable stove cylinder. It also allows you to connect an external LP appliance (i.e. gas grill or heater) to your camper.

These were $120, but are now $59.95, which is below dealer cost. Like the big propane tanks, these were a one-shot deal from the factory, so the price is limited to this shipment.

Hey guys i was going to revive this one as I still have not finished running LP line. My tank is mounted and looks great. I was wondering what LP regulator you guys picked with your tanks?

You should be able to go to any propane dealer/RV shop in your area and get parts that will work. There's nothing special about the regulator. Look for an Amerigas, Suburban Propane, FerrellGas retailer, or an RV repaire place like Camping World in your area and they will all have any propane parts you need.

Alert: Dont Vent the Propane Furnase out the Passenger Side !!!
You'll Gas Yourself out when either the Slider is Open
or You happen to be sitting outside the Sliding Door!
( or under the Awning cooking up lunch !!! Surprised)

quote="Energy Concepts"]Waiting on some Rust Bullet Paint.
Now, I need to decide which side of the bus
this should be installed on Question the drivers side is traditional
But, I think the only reason it's on that side
is so that it is close to the stove and fridge
in the Westy's.
It would make more sense to me to
have it on the passenger side.
to counter balance all of the weight
that has to be located on the drivers side.

This would go a long way in reducing the
drivers side lean Exclamation

But all of the connections; regulator, fill valves etc
May be in the way of entering and exiting the sliding door Question

I suppose the thing to do is to
tie it to my trans jack adaptor on my floor jack,
& raise it up into position
and take a look. Rolling Eyes

GoWesty just posted their new larger propane tank under New Products. The description states it causes a loss of 3" in ground clearance.
