Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Guessing at # of people, the more the merrier, will do my best to make room for the 10 Vans at the group site, dont worry, theres huge amounts of room for overflow sprawl, we will work it out one way or another.

Really looking forward to some Celebrity Bull Pen discussions at SyncroFest.

Syncro Jael will host a discussion about VC operation.

rjhdog will host a discussion about the effects of tire size on transaxle gearing and longevity.

Jon Slider will expound on his Hot Air about tires.

A few people will actually just go driving, others will actually just be camping, and some will do all of the above. Smile

I took ScottShelleys advice and went driving, on Old Coast Road in Big Sur. I used a Solid Shaft, which was completely unnecessary Smile

but its actually not a fork at all.
I was experimenting with the Panorama feature. The photo is a 180 degree pan from my right shoulder to my left. Had never tried it before, had no idea it would turn out that way.. Fun..

That is on Old Coast Road. I took it South bound from Bixby Bridge, my preferred direction because it is mostly UP hill. I like UP. The road has just been graded, and is currently 2wd friendly.

After SyncroFest, ScottShelley, VWHead, and I are planning a trip to Big Sur Lottie Potrero campground. Though there is no extreme offroading, nor risk of vehicle body damage type terrain, there are some severe switchbacks that are sometimes rutted and washed out with loose rocks.

The Trip to Lottie will be Syncro Recommended, except some experienced drivers in lifted 2wd vans with BFG tires have made it before too. I will post an update on trip dates after recovering from SyncroFest.

Point C is a favorite of mine. Lifted 2wd can do it, some 2wd vans have had trouble and needed pulling over a couple ruts. Conditions vary, I dont have a current report. We might check this on the way back from Lottie.

The 2wd is also a Carat, with low profile tires and a lightly scratched air dam.. not bad for a streetrod on dirt Smile

I could be into meeting the weekend of the 23-25. I'll be heading back from the meet in the PNW (Descend on Bend) in the Syncro and as long as she is mechanically happy I'd love to partake in some more trails.

Jon its so much fun to see the videos of me in the 2WD and how far my driving skills and van ownership skills have progressed... was up San Martin a few weeks back in the Syncro solo and glad I was road conditions were horrid.

so glad you got your syncro on the road already, and thanks for the road report for San Martin, Ive been wondering about that.

I may be headed to Prewitt tomorrow. Was there last week. The flies were bad, but it was wonderful to be in the hills.

Id be happy to go again with you, but Im not sure the dates you posted make sense, please verify when you mean.

I finished scoping out the route over the weekend. I know I mentioned to a few of you we might do Foresthill to French Meadows but I think this is going to be a lot better.

This mission heads through some awesome country. Meet up point will be at the Barker Pass OHV staging area in black wood canyon Friday Eve. (between Tahoe City and Homewood) You'll see signs for Caspian - blackwood canyon snow park. Turn there and once you see the pavement end at the Y about 2 miles in go to the right. Meet point is 1/4 miles on right after that. (if you cross a bridge you went too far)

Hey Guys

Thinking about taking a winter trip this weekend down to Big Sur - we're up in St. Helena. Been wanting to do Old Coast Rd. and check out Prewitt Ridge. We're in a lifted 2WD w/ fresh Geolandars.

Trying to feel out what conditions will be like? Also heard some questionable things recently about the sanitation up there, which really bums me out. Is this true?

Any info would be great. Not 100% set on Prewitt, but would love to cruise some dirt and find a nice retreat down South. Thanks for the help!

I was there last March and it was beautiful. I did see some evidence of people not really making much effort to deal with their sh&* Lots of toilet paper etc. I was driving a Syncro but a 2 wheel drive with Geolanders should be fine. In fact, I saw a Prius back there trying to tear of it's front air damn.

There are no facilities up there, I take one of these PETT fold up toilets with me to keep the camp areas clean any time I am doing dispersed camping.

If it had been raining prior to your arrival prewitt ridge will be difficult for a 2wd. The climb out has a few short steep climbs and the dusty trail in the summer gets pretty slick with the rain. There are areas along coast ridge that can still provide dispersed camping without going down to prewitt ridge that won't be a issue.

Figured this may be the right spot to ask the question - Going to be staying at our cabin in Truckee off and on for the next two weeks and was thinking of taking some time to take the westy out for a few nights in the area. Obviously high season right now but thought this group may have some ideas... Was thinking Gold Lake area but don't think my stock-ish syncro westy will clear the OHV road... any other good suggestions? ideally lakeside so I can take the little ones fishing?
