Ours from GoWesty smelled terrible. I put them in anyway and that was 3 years ago. I can still notice the odor, but it is quite a bit less. Had I known they would smell so bad, I might have gone another route. They were not cheap and my original carpets were in excellent shape and I wanted to preserve them. The mats fit great, work great, and are easy to remove and clean. So overall we are satisfied. Maybe camping with an 90 pound dog and cooking all meals inside have helped to mask the odor.

The PO already had the mat when I got the van. I didn't notice anything immediately, but when I went to pull large gray one that covers the main flooring area to wash it...whoa. Super stinky. The smell was eminating from the bottom of the thing. Washing it seemed to almost make it worse. I haven't worried about it too much because I only notice it when I take it out to clean it. It is one of the weirdest, most funky smells that I have encountered.

I think it's pretty common to have some odor but air those mats out and your good to go.

Installed GW rubber floor mats today. They smelled a little when I took them out of the box but not too bad Smile

Our set smelled pretty bad when I first unpacked them, so I left them in direct sun for a couple of days. It helped to an extent, at least they were tolerable, but it took a couple of years for the smell to totally dissipate. Now I can only smell them faintly if they get really hot, but nothing like they were when new.

We did the same thing and I feel the smell has now become more like regular matts like the after market ones that I put in my A4. Much better and not so strong. So put these things in the sun for a few days people. I put them upside down so they would not sun fade on the top with our super hot California sun Cool

Has anyone asked GW about this?
What was their response?

Good news is: after two years, the mats don't stink like they did when new. I scrubbed and washed with
different kinds of soap as well as setting them in the sun, but not much worked other than getting them
grimmy and dirty, or maybe it was spilled beer that did the trick? Don't know what it was, probably just
time that did it!

My didn't smell like that for very long but I do have a set of drawers from http://www.adventuretrailers.com/drawer.html That fit the syncro GL prefectly and built super tough..... but are coated with bed liner paint and they stink when it gets warm.... I am hoping they gas off because they were expensive....

I think that's the trick! You folks with smelly mats are too fastidious. I put my stinky GoWesty rear mat in last year right before SyncroFest. A long weekend of dust, dirt, tortilla chips, and splattered bacon fat took the smell right away!

My set had a rubbery smell when it was new, but muddy boots, coffee spills and road dust seems to have taken care of it completely.

LOL.. When I bought mine, I parked the van in the direct sun at the beach.. rolled the windows up and took a nice toasty after-surf nap.

When I got back home.. Wife wondered where I'd been for 3 days.

Mine even sets off the CO / Propane detector if I don't make sure the heater fan isn't blowing accross it. I'm guessing this is outgassing of the petroleum products it was made with.

I put it in the bed of the pickup truck for a few months to try and get it to finish outgassing. It hasn't.
