I have been trying to research the best way to replace my rusted out battery tray in my 71 Square. Seems I am out of luck with an OEM piece. I see people talking about a Ghia piece? How close is that? What about a cheapy Type 1 tray?
I don't mind doing the welding but I'm not a metalsmith that can custom bend a pan from scrap metal.

What's everyone doing now with the most success?

I used a nice-quality bug piece- it was perfect in length- front to rear but a bit short side to side- I welded on a pie-shaped piece to fill the gap.

Just a small amount of bending made it fit just fine.
