A little bit o' drama up at Klein Lake today: a VW Westfalia started on fire and exploded several times causing a huge vehicle fire. It was near the edge of the woods which fortunately did not catch fire. Everyone is okay. Firefighters were there quickly.

Sorry, I had linked to the Vanagon Owners group post, which is closed. Try now, I think I fixed it. _________________ Vanagon ’83 diesel AAZ w/Giles injection, 5spd 4.57R&P+TBD and a '78 diesel Rabbit |

Fire damaged early Westy(?) found on the CL. Looks like the fire made it all the way to the front. Even melted off the side mirrors.

A casualty of the November 28 fires in and around Gatlinburg, TN. This is my buddy's Syncro, he was away when the fire swept through his valley.

F*cking awesome! The list of what was wrong with the van BEFORE the rollover doesn't make it sound like a parts van even. What an idiot. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

look on the bright side, at least your getting full disclosure for the sale. Maybe that's why its a $6000-$6500 over priced parts van. Even i wouldn't try to rebuild, but i would buy a couple of parts from the guy. _________________ I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the internet

The ad says = (Taking about the side door) "still works, but some light showing around the frame. good chance that just the frame is bent."
Bent frame from a rollover is a deal breaker for me. Parts van at that point. I'm just glade the guy is alright and everyone around. Sorry for his loss, sucks. _________________ I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the internet

The sub-frame rails are not bent and the wheels are tracking fine. The rear pillars are bent, the sliding door does not appear to be. I am going to get a reputable auto-straightener to verify.
Does it matter what condition the transmission and engine were before the crash? Um, well, considering they both still run - I fucking think so.

Good luck to ya. Worst things about parting out a vehicle are dealing with all the little parts, and then dealing with the cheap fuckers that want a deal on something used... Good luck. Could always be worse. |

Probably an exercise in futility to link the pic. They all look pretty much the same and they're all bummers.
