Or did 64s have a metal sunroof? When did production for ragtops cease? |

Not in the U.S.. 64 and up U.S. cars were metal sunroofs. From what i've read ragtops existed until 67 on foreign type 1s. _________________ 67 Convertible July 67 Yukon Yellow

Is there anything online regarding that? Also what where the VIN codes for a 1964 ragtop/sunroof? |

Download the progressive refinements and you'll see the ragtop went into the 64 model year, dont remember how far though. Up in the corner, Technical>Manuals>progressive refinements _________________ Greg

Whoever answers poll no is wrong. 1967 model year was last for Ragtop. Deluxe ragtop was dropped after 1963 model year ,but Standard beetle had them as option thru 1967 model year.
vin number will not tell if hardtop or ragtop. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

Standard model Type 1s can be ordered with an optional cloth folding sunroof up until 1967 |
this is what you wrote yesterday. "up until 1967"
they were built in 1967 also. geez Glenn. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

Ok, I don't have the answer here (hence the question) Did they continue manufacturing fabric sunroofs after Germany's cut off dates or did they never produce one at all??
Dave |
Well, the ones produced in Mexico did. The owner of the local vintage VW repair and restoration shop around the corner from me has a red '96 standard ragtop with no chrome and color matched factory bumpers. Except for the colored matched bumpers, it looks like a standard mid to late 70's bug. The opening of the sunroof is actually a bit wider and longer than the '63 and older U.S. market Beetles. It stops just above the rear window. Need to get some pics of it on here. It's pretty sharp. _________________ Stu

In OUR market(USA)the ragtop was discontinued towards the end of '63. I've had a couple of '63s with metal sunroofs. But it's possible that it was still available in other markets. I've seen single chamber master cylinders AND a swing axle transaxle in a '73 Bug from Mexico. So I guess anythings possible in other markets. |
