I can't believe they painted that SO-23. WOW _________________ WANTED:

Looks like it was in primer in the "before" photo. No big deal. _________________ nothing |

Reference photo for likely a late '57 - 2/58 (3 rib air box) Camping-box seat plaid pattern. Looks like they are making notes on top of the stove cabinet. |

Sweet. Wonder if that's an early one like Pauls? That plaid pattern matches what was in my 10/55 bus - there were multiple colors though. I've also seen that plaid pattern in a late '56 as well. |

Maybe, kinda looks like the roof panels are all grey still to me though. Guess it could have that interior but not be westy-painted.
I have been wondering what type of seat cushion material would have been in a dove blue 58 such as mine. I've seen examples from pg/sg buses of the vintage but not dove blue. What's in your euro '58?

Fixed it for you...
Reference photo for likely a late '57 - 2/58 (3 rib air box) Camping-box seat plaid pattern. Looks like they are playing Tic-Tac-Toe on top of the stove cabinet. _________________ aka: Evan

My '58 has a blue plaid, I don't think it's original though. |

Very interesting photo Eric.
Greg, I tend to agree that its an early bus and not a campingbox kit. It probably is like my kit.
Eric find some more pics of that bus.. hehehe _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

Everett found those pics and posted them in the Vintage splitty photos thread. There are a couple more of what looks like a pg/sg westy, may or may not be the same bus.

I am wondering what leads you to believe that? Interior light is late style, cushion is in the right position for '57-58 kit as well as obviously having a stove cabinet. Could be same as yours Paul or later '57-'58 kit. I see it has two-tone wheels if all 3 pics are the same bus, which I believe they are...Front bumper looks hannover? Curtains also look the same as the remnants from my 12/57 pg/sg westy. I love a good westy mystery... |

Thanks sled and Everett for the explanations on that "pressed bumper" Westy. The current owner had affirmed to me it is a 58, so from sight I wasn´t troubled about the pressed bumpers. |
A build date of 3rd November 1958 makes it a 58 if you use calendar year, which people in Europe and the UK do. They will call a big hatch November 63 bus a '63, while people in the US call it a 64.
This bus was painted with earlier colors and fitted with earlier bumpers that it had when new.
It is not really a pressed bumper westy. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

My uncle has a December 3rd of 56 bus. He purchased it sight unseen and it had some major issues. He lives in hagerstown, MD so he took it to the best- Bob Cook for a full resto. The bus did not have any evidence of headliner clips. The p/o who "restored" the bus put in some ugly fake kombi roof panels. Cooker peeled the panels back and found a hole in the position and shape of a sub hatch. The birth certificate does not say the color is palm green and sand green, but just sand green. Bus was built on december 3 and and finished december 5.
There is evidence of yellow paint in the door jambs etc.
Think it could be an so-23 or something else?
