There seems to be enough posts about nasty vehicles and over priced parts, so lets keep them all in one place.

All the other forums have "whine" topics and now this one does.

All new topics will be locked.

Thank You (The Management)

VW Gazelle missing many pieces... this was $200 a year ago, I decided not to buy it since there were some impossible-to-find pieces missing, like the seats, the inner tub that goes over the VW pan, top frame, bumper and fender brackets, some of the unique switchgear and the long-discontinued Classic Instruments speedometer, and just about everything else but the fenders, body and grille and some random trim parts were gone, destroyed or severely damaged.

This might be good as an alternative Volksrod body or a body donor for someone with a wrecked Gazelle.

Excellent deal... if the mid-engine frame is any good, I'd leave off the engine lid, put louvers over the engine and make the engine itself look like an expensive European piece with judicious application of Allen bolts, black wrinkle-finish and machine-tool grey paint and four Weber carbs under an oblong air cleaner, with a Cadillac Cimarron shift boot assembly hiding the shifter to the Toronado slushbox.

MG kit for only $3000 in Oregon (paint the wheels and grille bars to match the interior and put on some non-logo hubcaps in place of the fake wires, and it'll look almost authentic. A die-hard kit car enthusiast would either obtain a wood dash and Classic Instruments gauges from MG Magic or make the dash look more authentic, then fit a Flat-4 banjo steering wheel, on top of the other mods I mentioned.

Very nice Mini-Mark in Vancouver, Washington for $6500 OBO or trade, purportedly a factory-built car. Color scheme is dated to say the least, but should be kept for provenance purposes.

Joe Fierro GT (one of my favorites of all time) in Las Vegas for $10,000:

Pristine VW Jaguar SS100 in Portland, Oregon for $9900 (autostick)

Almost too good to be true... a $500 Meyers Tow'd. In Portland, Oregon. No body, tub and cage look pretty good, needs lots of TLC but would be worth restoring.

Another maroon and white basket-case Gazelle... could be a parts unit or an ambitious project. Never built but evidently pulled out of the crates and boxes, $600 in Beaverton, Oregon

Well that little buggy is my new toy LOL Really liked the look have been doing some looking around Im not sure if it is a Tow'd or not I know it looks like one but it has a square tube frame and the fuel tank is differant so far all the ones I have seen are round tube frames. Question can anybody tell me where the ID tag would be? Also can anyone tell me about the Leap Frog kit as Im wondering if that is what it is. Thanks Randy

Randy,

I know little about Tow'ds and this is the first I've heard of the Leap Frog (my fiberglass-car knowledge is more in the way of regular dune buggies, kit cars, non-VW race cars, Corvettes, Lotuses and really old stuff like Devin and Kellison specials), you may try http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/ for info, or PM BL3Manx, who is something of a resident B.F. Meyers & Co. expert.

Since I don't know anything about Leap Frog buggies and thus can't speak for whether or not they are like your Tow'd, my opinion is that it's a Fiber Jet Sand Hopper Tow'd clone, a Sand Flee, or a one-off fake Tow'd made with a square-tube frame, possibly with an original Meyers tub or a new tub molded off an original. New fiberglass hoods, engine covers and fenders are available through Meyers Manx itself and will be able to fit any other Tow'd-style buggy except the Vaquero with some modifications, possibly none for near-duplicates like yours.

Glad to see that you rescued it,

I am not looking to get into a debate about the worth of a real Manx. Even though this is a real Manx that has been certified, I thik the price is way high for the quality. It is a re-spray, not original gell coat. A 1641 is not all that special to raise the price that much, it has a horrid fan shroud that cools the worst of any out there and the old "see-through" distributor caps. Nothing fancy on the wheels, just a powder coated steel rim.

The hard top is cool, but I do not see where the rear of the top mounts.

I think $ 6 to $ 8 K.

I saw that ad and originally thought they were listing it for $1500.00 I know, that seems pretty far fetched, but I think a little more believable than $15000.00 But, a person can ASK for whatever they want...
