So I have to rant about my being cheap.
Back in May before the MOTF trip, I built a 1641 and purchased a HOTSPARK Distributor with electronic ignition.
All I can say is that after having checked ALL of the trouble shooting resolutions, that distributor DOES NOT WORK. It is a POS.
I have contacted HS a couple of times and each time it is the same that I have hooked it up backwards or the coil is incorrect etc.
The thing is that it actually did run for a SHORT time...barely...and then petered out.
Every time I open my paypal account I am reminded about this POS because the charge is still in there. That seems to be the only thing that worked in this transaction...6 months no payments...how about 6 months NO WORKING...
I got what I paid for... |

Holy Rat Snot Batman!
I just looked at mine, also in purple, and thought wow, I could build a new buggy, have a keg party, then still have money left over for breakfast. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Looks like a good deal.
This one sold for a considerable amount more than that one.

It is very nicely done, but IMHO it looks more like a Kelmark (spelling) kit car than a 917. _________________ Prosit!

this seems a weird ad to me - there are clearly two cars involved here and yet the text (both english and german versions) just refer to 'the car'. and then it says 'the motor (singular again) can be moved freely by hand. No start attempts were made'...? why not I wonder
www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2211809
now changed to just the coupe for half the price of both cars

Nice tail lights...
If there were any on this "street legal" car.
There are. The led strips on the roll bar. Tail lights not at the back of the vehicle would render it illegal in my state. But a great many cars claimed to be "street legal" may be street registered, but far from street "LEGAL".
It's cool in some ways, buttttt........
6V headlight housings would fit the body and not look like an afterthought.
No doors is a maybe. I WOULD HOPE the body is a flip top with the pivot at the front. Don't think it is. That won't affect entry/exit.
OTOH, the builder just might question some aspects of my Baja or my buggy. I know that each has their own view of how to do things. That is the core of much of what I do and my philosophy of building a car. So I don't want my comments to be seen as judgemental and harsh. Maybe they might be observed as suggestions that will help others build their own a little less questionable.
Still kinda cool.
I like the sectioning of the body to bring the trim line down to the fender tops. And the overall concept is pretty cool. _________________ Richard
