Driven 374 miles since I installed this gauge on Thursday night. Yep it's a daily driver
And yes my phone case looks like the nose of a bay window bus. |
Where did you get that Speedo set up? |
From Speedhut. Their 4 1/2" gauge is a perfect drop in replacement for the factory speedo opening. No cutting your dash or any of that. No more messing with stupid speedo cables. No more inaccurate readings when changing wheel/tire sizes. I have 14" bus wheels on the front of my car for example. I have my oil light hooked to the high beam light in the speedo and the turn signal lights in the speedo work as well.

Just realized we follow each other on Instagram. I have a couple other pictures of it on there. Including a night time shot of it. black_betty_66 _________________ 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition

Ive been daily driving this one for about 5 weeks now. 38 miles from the house to work, 38 miles back home every day.
1963
1600 DP
12v
External Oil filter
Scat fan shroud
No heater boxes and fresh air holes blocked (though the tubes are still in place to fill the holes in the breast plate)
No interior (at all) aside from the two front seats made for a very loud commute. 2 layers of cardboard and a moving blanket on top of it all made it "Phone-music-capable" _________________ 1963 Beetle |

car - 1966 factory sunroof
engine - 1600 DP
trans - standard
tires - 195/65/15 rear 195/55/15 front
mpg - avg 34mpg from Santa Cruz to Camas, WA
miles - dunno, I'm not working, so where ever I have to go, it goes
satisfaction level - it's my daily, it makes me smile daily
wish list - new carb, new cam, new exhaust, hell...might as well get a bigger engine and a new transaxle with taller gears...while I'm wishing.

Huh! That car looks kind of familiar. I remember having my hands up under that car last Monday adjusting your valves and changing the oil. I have the bruise on my left arm to prove it
In hind sight, I should have taken it around the block. I have wondered how well those disc brakes work compared to drum brakes. I'll get another chance sooner or later.

I don't drive my '66 daily but as often as I can.
I've seen more pre 1967s over the past year on the roads around NYC than '68 and later cars if that means anything. |

Heidi became my daily driver when I retired April 1. I've logged nearly 3,000 miles with her since acquiring her last fall. Shes perfect for everything from our daily morning cruises along the beach to running various errands in and around town. We've even put her roof rack to good use on several ocassions hauling bagged mulch and sod from the local nursery |
I've now logged just over 5,000 miles. The only mishap I encountered was running out of fuel one Sunday am this past summer when the fuel gauge wasn't reading correctly. I love this little car!!! |
UPDATE...
Nearly 2 years have passed, and I've logged just over 12,000 miles of driving pleasure with Heidi. Most of these miles have been covered during early morning cruises along the beach before the SOFL heat kicks in mid morning. She always starts with the first turn of the key, and runs and drives perfectly.
Average mpg is 28, and average oil useage is 1/2 qt/1,500 miles. In addition to the pleasure of driving, I also enjoy tinkering with her every 3,000 miles...oil changes, valve adjusting, brake adjusting, front end greasing, tire pressure adjusting. Looking forward to doing her next service which will include a complete tune up. |

I drive my 67 sedan as a daily. Over 3000 miles in 6 months. Regularly drive her to 24 hours of lemons races. It's also my only car now that I sold the 66 volvo 122. She's a straight ride that hasn't let me down yet.

Since i'm in construction I have to drive a pick up truck M-F. But you better believe I keep the truck in the warehouse on the weekends and drive my 66 bug Friday, Saturday, Sunday! It drives great and could be a daily driver if I was able to use it in that way.

The good thing about that work view is that if you are having a bad day you can always watch the lot lizards and feel better. |

My issue with daily driving is not the driving. It's the parking. Where I work, I'd be worried about it all day. Heck, even where I live, the front VW emblem was stolen off it only three days after I got it. That's why I don't even keep it there. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? car - 1964 sunroof
engine - stock, matching numbers...12V converted
trans - standard
tires - 195/65/15 rear 195/55/15 front
mpg - ????
miles - 200/week give or take
satisfaction level - I love it. But sometimes no A/C sucks and today she overheated
wish list - new sunroof drain tubes so it doesn't leak and new carpet...since it leaked
BonBon (aka Bonnie/Bonanator) is the only car I own, and I love seeing her every morning. She has been great, but I also knew what driving her meant so I'm never really surprised/disappointed when things don't go as planned. |
