The only modification done to it was giving the bows a slight curve. Other then that it was very easy to do, I was able to instal it in one afternoon. I've also driven in the worst possible rain storms and I've not had a drop of water come in the cabin.

Here's where I got it, I think it looks a lot better then the Streetbeat model.

because this was 10x easier, I don't have acess or the skill for a real graft, and I felt better doing this to a phat chick then cutting up a real sunroof car.

It may be a little pricey but after buying a real clip, sourcing all of the new parts, welding it in, and assembling it I think this was cheaper in the end and much more toruble free. I'm not saying I wouldn't have rather had a real Goldie, but for me this is close enough.

Personally I wouldn't do it to an early model small window car, but for a daily driver or mild custom its a nice touch and it adds a nice feel durirng the warmer months. Open or closed its pretty hard to tell the difference from a real one unless your right next to it.

slidingragtops.com is the same model as the Streetbeat kit. The guy who runs slidingragtops.com is the old owner of streetbeat. The picture above is the old version of the vintage top. The top picture is the new version.

Not true.

the model sold for the beetle still has the big ugly fiberglass frame, though you may be right that its the same company. I bought this model knowing it may not have fit my car, because it was not advertised to fit the curve of the beetle roof. Luckely it fit just fine.

I've seen the fiberglass framed sunroof before, they just don't really look right when they're closed..

The nice thing about the smaller aluminum frame on mine is it follows the curve of the roof, and its quite strong.

The Fiberglass on the other seemed to take away some of the regidity of the roof and allow it to flex.

There are more pictures of mine in the build thread of the car.

Kylw72,

I think it looks great. What size did you get for your Herbie 35" x 40" Two Fold Sliding Ragtop Sunroof?

Did you put it in yourself?

To anyone who does decide to do this measure about 4 inches back from the windshield when you make the cut.

keep in mind this was my daily driver for nearly 3 years. rain, snow, sleet, wind, hail, dust storms, I drove it through all of it and I was always totally sealed from the elements.

I know people with $30,000 restorations with goldies that freaking spit on your lap in a little drizzle.
