Attached are photos of my donor pedal to replace the clicking pedal in my Tristar Syncro .
Although blurry ,you get the idea . I used an off the shelf set of items . A bronze 3/8" bushing ,clevis pin and washer .
I drilled the pedal out to the OD of the bushing ,made it an interference fit . I had to shorten the bushing to make the same size as the pedal . I drilled the push rod hole open to 3/8" and re drilled the clevis pin for a cotter key and shorten the pin . I could only find longer parts than I needed.
The whole procedure took less than an hour and cost about $11.00 . I am working on dash type items and want to do it all at once . I have rebuilt a heater box with a new blower motor and TK/VC heater core .I will be changing my dash to one with fewer holes and burns and adding 2 power points to the top of my dash and fixing my plugged squirter's all at the same time.
I still need to see about modifying the heater box to accommodate my radio . I need about 1/2 " [/img]

Nice pedal rebuild write-up, that's on my todo list.

The heater box mod is easy to do with the dash in place.

I used one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?category=&q=heat+gun thru the ashtray hole to heat up the box plastic until it was pliable, then I used a couple of big screwdriver/prybar handles to reshape the box to accommodate the back of the radio. Go slow, use 2-3 handles to hold the pliable plastic in place as it cools. With the dash in place, you can easily test fit the radio again & again until you have the heater box shaped right.

Since you are in there, think about doing this: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=171071&start=94
