The elbow for the vent to the fuel filler neck on my '73 needs to be replaced. I stole the photo from another site because the part number is actually visible.
It is part number 22 in the diagram below, pay no attention to the image of the elbow pictured because it is incorrect.
I have searched a bit on google looking for a 1/2" silicone elbow that would do the job but no luck thus far. Has anyone come up with a suitable solution? |

Cut back the steel/copper line a bit and muscle on the biggest local FLAPS fuel hose you can muster up, like 3/8" 7/16" even?
Look for small rubber oil line with correct nominal I.D. ?

I had to replace the one on my 72 a short time ago. I used a pvc plumbing elbow.I had to wrap the metal pipe with plastic electrical tape to enlarge it to fit inside the pvc elbow, then used pvc cement to bond it together, worked out rather well. Good Luck! |

your image comes from or shall we say matches that of VWHeritage.com in the UK. Their online system shows the part available. Did they tell you the part was NLA?
Also http://en.serial-kombi.com/centre-fuel-elbow-72-N3343.html shows one for sale on their website.
Last year I had the same part without an A for sale but it looks totally different.

Not sure the diameter of the elbow you need, but I would guess that there is a turbo oil return line elbow out there somewhere that will fit and far outlast the original VW part. Probably some vent line elbows off of other rigs that would work as well. |

The PCV line from an 84 Honda Accord has donated 2 or 3 of those for my buses so far and still has a couple of bends left in it, I'm sure other cars have similar fuel proof hoses with molded bends. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Buy FLAPS hose too long and put in a loop to fit. Will also eliminate strain. _________________ .ssS! |

Not exactly the same with the same 90 degree turn but may have to resort to it. Thanks. _________________ My Bus Restoration Blog

Just run a longer piece of fuel hose from the filler neck to the tank eliminating the elbow, hard line and shorter flex line. Or bend an appropriate 90 in stainless and use 2 short pieces of hose. |

11mm ID. I would put a loop in if you can't find the molded part. _________________ "It's not 'You are what you eat', it's 'You are what you don't SHIT". Wavy Gravy.

Prior to removal and cleaning, my fuel vent was capped off and fill ups were slow and agonizing. I used one long piece of fuel hose and connected the vent straight to the other end along the fuel filler tube. I'm under the assumption there is enough room between the firewall and vent tube for the hose to make the 90 degree towards the filler neck. The fuel hose I used was rather pliable and didn't kink when bent by hand. There might be a slight kink, but I can't tell once the firewall is up. All I can say is that fill ups are now a breeze.

Or...get a length of hose and push a properly sized stainless coil spring inside of it so it,does not kink. Ray |

Yea, that's what I was thinking too. Going to be calling some FLAPS this weekend to see if they carry something that will fit. _________________ 1972 Westfalia P30 hardtop Campmobile [On-going Restoration]
