Looks like I will have to skip this trip due to not being able to get the time off. Snow season will be around for the next few months which will leave plenty of time to get the bus out. The lack of heat will suck but I have plenty of cold weather gear.
Weather report shows it will be a bit warmer than originally anticipated but still plenty of snow.
Good luck and have fun! _________________ 59 DD panel. Former Romano's TV delivery bus

Aww yeah, my bus now has heat. Just needed some new cables. Busted the knob in the process, but luckily had a spare. Whoot!
Firewood boxed, chains test fit, sled waxed.... I think I'm ready!
Anybody from Portland going? |

Up here in PT as well, just heard the plow truck go by. It's must be dumping up in the mountains.
Latest forecast says it's going to warm up a bit so the roads should be clear for people getting to Quilcene Saturday morning. Guarantee there will still be plenty of snow in the mountains.
TruckersMike: Sorry to hear you couldn't get the time off. I'll still hold onto a grain of hope that you figure out a way to make it. If not this one, then the next.
Zundapp: Radio Flyer is in the rack, ready for the "old school class" head to head.
TRIP UPDATE-Phone List? Should we have one? Seems like a good idea in case someone is running late or having mechanical issues. If you plan on coming on the trip and want your number on a phone list PM it to me. The numbers will not be posted, I'll PM you the list. Another good bit of information to put on the list might be an emergency contact number. This list is completely optional, no hard feelings if anyone, or everyone, opts out. |

Should have been checking the list more regularly. I can't get a bus together for this one but I could have driven the air cooled Pinz as a rescue truck

Getting a Pinz is on my long list, must've been on your short list. I remember you posting in early December that you were thinking about getting one. Yours looks great, will you post a picture of it next to your bus so I can finally see a side by side size comparison.
I chipped away at my to do list: replaced a couple of door seal sections, installed a backup light, ditched the rubber cargo matt, insulated cargo floor + added "camper" floor. Not sure if my CB is working, I couldn't pick up any radio traffic.
All things of been putting off forever, funny how a little trip gives you a kick in the pants to take care of the odds and ends.
TRIP UPDATE- Got the map books done.

As Bob said, kudos on the maps.
So it looks like not all hope is lost. I'm just waiting for someone to get back to me about working my Saturday shift to make sure I can go. Assuming that I can, I'm going to connect with you Bob to caravan down. Be warned that I normally don't wake up before noon so I may be a little slow in the morning
Tomorrow I'm going to go through as much of the bus as I can but I don't expect there to be any real issues besides the battery being weak which is normal. There won't be any stock heat so I'm going to use my propane heater that I've used in the past. The only issue with it is it seems to go through gas fairly quickly. Dogs might need some sweaters too. Lastly, I'll need to find some chains by tomorrow that fit.
I should know by tomorrow evening if everything is a go. _________________ 59 DD panel. Former Romano's TV delivery bus

Yes the pinz was on my short list. I just got it this week. I will post a photo soon side by side with the 63 for comparison, though it is a lot smaller than you would think. It is shorter in length than a bus I believe, being only 13' 4" long |

Its got a snowhawk |
The snow's all gone. It's been warm (50s!) and rainy.
Hell, what's that! I feel radiation from a bright glowing orb in the sky. Very odd.
Is it aliens?
It's probably dangerous. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

The snow here in PT is all gone as well but I was just up in the foothills, there's still a lot of wet snow on the ground. It's going to be interesting to see what conditions are like deeper in the forest.
This picture was late April up in the P.O. National Forest.
This was the same day on the shady North side of something Totally shut down, no chains, wear sandals and t-shirts.
I've been looking at maps online, it looks like there could be a way to push all the way to Port Angeles on secondary roads. A lot of the Sequim to Port Angeles route would be outside of the NF on timber land so there might be locked gates.
The Goggle maps of this entire area are really messed up. Things that I know I have connected are shown as dead ends, other dead ends are shown as connecting and the # labeling is wrong on lots of roads. Not to mention most of the roads are missing there number markers anyway. There're similar discrepancies in the printed maps. In other words.... expect a bunch of guessing. |
