Thats cool too; I have no plans to rattle can my DoKa, those boys at ISP did a fine job in restoring the truck to a civilian ivory. I'm just saying that I like those old army colors, camo or flat M*A*S*H green, if I was an aristocrat/celebrity with oodles of cash I might consider restoring it to that army green. Alas, its all just speculation and appreciation for those rigs above. _________________ ~Bryan

I just discovered this thread,so pardonemwa for not responding sooner when my name was mentioned. I am Tom Buese, aliasCanvas Guy, alias the original style canopy maker for vw trucks. I have been threatening to make Vanagon truck canopies for several years now, as I already make them for 1952-79 VW trucks. in any event, I sold my splitties, so the spousal unit says I can get a Syncro Doka, which I am searching for so I can actually make them for vanagon trucks. "Syncrodoka" graciously sent moi his doka canopy & hoops to measure out, etc.many years ago, & finally w/ a doka in sight, I promise to start making them. I probably have a list of 15-20 vanagon truck owners over the years who have asked moi for one.
Stay tuned!
Cheers |

Tom,
Dokas-schmokas. What about us Sinka guys!
My original and very tired looking canvas will look like doo-doo on my truck since the body restoration:
Light to medium grey would be nice! |

Since he already has the template all he has to do is to stretch it 2 feet and you are good.
Hey what are you doing slumming it in a doka thread?!? |

Yeah, cut a Doka canvas in half, add two feet to the middle and I'm covered!
Franken-tilt! I doubt thecanvasguy would put his name on it though
I snoop around the common Doka threads cuz WestyBob and I get kinda lonely in our rare/unusual Sinka threads. |

Of course I will make Single Cab canopies also, that is why I referred to VW Trucks, not just Dokas!
YMMV,
Mr. BZ-will post pics of a buddy's NOS Doka canopy soon-not sure if he still has it? |

I found this portion of the ETKA to be very useful, top side Sinka Tilt, bottom Doka:
Now, I've never seen a Doka tilt with six legs, and I'd have to look to see if there is even a space in the bed for this style of tilt. I think the 4 legged tilts were more common.
Here is the part numbers, also very useful:

Wow ... just re-tapped into the latest page of this thread and yeah ... my sinka's tilt is getting stiff, crusty, fugly and leaky. I even have an inside plastic tarp inserted above the bows to keep it dry(er) inside. And there's also another sinka syncro in Pdx-town that may be interested. |

Zeb at 1stVWParts.com (auburn VW, WA) was able to get me the following tilt supplies:
N 90003301 stop buffers for tilt frame
N 0331711 counter sunk bolts for tilt frame
N 0114052 panel nut for above bolts
245 871 217 tilt gasket for between the tilt and rear window gutter.
I will have to wait for these to ship from Europe, but hey OEM baby! Further tilt talk, I took my tilt off for the winter last week, going to re-condition and try to repair the missing rivets and torn vinyl. In the meantime I'll save my lunch money for any new after market stuff. I'm thinking cab height in black canvass. _________________ ~Bryan

Mine is also suffering from S.C.F.L. So now there's three possibleSINKA customers! |

Actually those are two different styles, not a single cab and a doka tilt. I have seen both versions. |

Here are some long promised pics of a buddy's NOS Doka canopy for you viewing pleasure, or not:
Notice the part no 247 871 071.
IIRC, Scott paid $2k for this years ago.
It is more complicated hardware-wise than the 1952-79 canopies I already duplicate, but I think we are finally ready to give it a try. |

WOW, so new, so SHINEY! I bet it even smells good.
So Tom, what kind of materials are you thinking of utilizing? Something very similar to the stock models? _________________ ~Bryan

I was told that I could get a NOS canopy(not the bows) for $1K a year ago and I thought it was a grip. Maybe I should have jumped on it.
I also passed on a complete NOS tilt for a early truck when I had mine 10 years ago...I knew I should have bought it when I passed on that deal though |

I plan to make them as close to OG as possible, depending on hardware & material availability, then make custom ones once I have them dialed in, just like my early canopies. |

I'm interested in a single cab tilt. Will the first run be the high version or the roof height one? _________________ 1986 Transporter single cab Syncro |
