I use a inner tube on mine. Won't have to worry about that. |
I contacted Aaron of singlewheel.com, who is Da Man when it comes to all things single-wheeled. He wrote back:

You're right about the bead popping and the cause being the small back and forth motion getting into the parking spot. It sounds like the wheel assembly got a little bound up, and pushed the tire sideways against its normal direction popping the bead. The tube should help to resolve the problem, but I would also look into the play on the wheel assembly, the tire pressure you are running, and even your hitch. If you plan on doing something like that again, the least amount of play in the wheel assembly and the hitch the better. Or just go lift the back end of the trailer up and spin the wheel so that it rolls. That's what I've done in the past. Also I run tubes in all my trailers, as I'm not comfortable with a bead lock on a tire that small
|
FWIW, I checked the play in the wheel assembly and the wheel swivel when I took the tire off, and nothing was sloppy-loose. There is zero play in the hitch.I've also been running the tire inflation at 45 psi, which is what the Sears manuals recommended. The guy at the tire store said it should be more, but the wear on the tread looked to me like the inflation was just about right. Anyway, now I've got a new tire, with a tube, on the trailer, and I've kept the other tire as a spare. _________________ -- JLT

Good info there. I've had the wobble thing happen while the trailer was empty, never when it's hauling at least a hundred pounds. I deliberately engineered mine to be as light as possible (that's one of the reasons I used the car-top carrier instead of a conventional box), but that was before I realized that you do need a little weight back there to stabilize the trailer. _________________ -- JLT

I just bought an allstate frame and was hoping for some help.
my axle is chewed up an pretty much garbage but the rim and tire are new looking but missing bearings. No big deal I can buy bearings and an axle.... but whats this cone spacer? Its on both sides and rides in between the cone and fork correct? Then the grease seal rides on the spacer... right? Does any one have any pics of it?
One more question, what is the measurement between the forks? Mine was bent to shit and I was able to heat and bent back but just want to double check the spacing. I have about 4 1/4". looks good but I guess it will be determined by the cone spacers.
Thanks in advance. _________________ 69 Westy |

What tires are folks using? I see a cool white wall tire here, is it street legal? I need a tube type tire in 4x8 size for my trailer. What makes a scooter tire bad to use? They are tube type and dot approved.

I use a Cushman scooter whitewall tire. It works great. I've had it up to highway speeds on a regular basis. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Very cool, I need to find the best place to buy one! I notice you list your single wheel trailers in your sig., I want to do that too now but need to find out what years my trailers are. Here they are.
The Rose Trailerette
The Allstate
The Harris

I got these hitch brackets that attach to the bumper. I might use them to see how it feels to tow one of these trailers.

Thanks. Yeah I read that topic yesterday while I was reading through the thread. Gonna lower it some more and take the air pressure down to 45! |

Well, lowered the hitch point 2"s lower and took the tire pressure down to 35. Tightened the center pivot nut down tight and backed of just 1/8 of a turn, it was a little sticky at first but then was spinning it around under the trailer while it was lifted and it loosened up just perfectly. Took it out and did a hard 1st gear pull and banged a 2nd gear hard. Checked the bumper bracket bolts (weakest points) and seamed to be fine. Still might reenforce that area too.
BTW Happy Easter! |

It would ride better with the air pressure at 25 lbs. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

since it is for novelty and not really to haul, you're probably right. Will have to try that too. |

Oh snap! It seems I have an extra part I can't remember where it goes. I thought this washer went between the pivot washer and the castle nut but it hits the rocker axle. Any other ideas?
