Good day everyone, this morning I went to our Toronto office and I got my review for the first two quarters with my boss, everything went well. In the meantime, Vincent was having an important meeting with people from the Bank and everything went well for him as well, the VP sent an email to Vincent’s CEO to congratulate the team for a great meeting. Around noon, Vincent picked me up in front of our office and he had a fan club to welcome him (Deborah, Tony, Kevin, Jennifer and Adrian)…Jennifer didn’t believe the small amount of luggage that we had. Adrian confirmed that he thought I was crazy.
France's update (day2)
The nice weather was with us when we left Toronto. When we arrived at Niagara Falls, we put the roof on since the sky was very menacing…and yes, we tested the roof again and again it was a success. The weather was less menacing and we removed the roof. It was a sunny day for most of the time. When we stopped to stretch a little bit, Vincent took the opportunity to quickly clean the Dune Buggy. He realized that one muffler clamp was missing…you don’t know what it is? No problem, I didn’t know either and Vincent confirmed to me that it was not a big deal …he think that he might have one spare in the trunk. The road was really nice with a lot of “S” turns and between the hills.
We arrived at Carlisle around 8:40pm. We went directly to the BBQ to see the gang. All our friends were there, Tom, Kathleen, Tom, John, Keith, Winnie and Bruce Meyers and many others. We were really happy to see each of them again. The reunion was short because we didn’t want to arrive too late at the hotel. Saturday we will spend the day with all these nice people…lot of nice discussions to come. So talk to you soon.

Oh my God, where should we start? This morning the sun was present and the temperature was so nice. After a pit stop at the gas station, we went to the show. It was great to see our friends back and it’s always as surprising to see people start talking to us by saying “Hello Vince and France”….they know us but not the other way around (this is due of the The Samba forum). We asked Bruce to sign the picture of the 108 dune buggy that we took at the Big Bear Bash in 2009. We also asked Winnie and Brune if we could (in a safety mode) do a pit stop through Mexico next year when we will go back to California and we should have two or three places. We also talked with Tom (from Tijuana Kustoms) for the fabrication of another roof and it is why we will pass by his shop Monday on our way back.
At the beginning of the afternoon, we listened to Bruce’s speech…it is always pleasant to listen to him…a real model for all of us. After that, it was the official picture of the 22 Dune Buggy (less than last year, but this is probably because of the poor weather of the last days who was not better than in Quebec.) For the ride, we were 16 dune buggies and 1 beetle…it was just FANTASTIC. To see all of us, one behind each other, with all those different colors and the sun…what could we ask more? At the end of the ride, we left the group just a little bit before the end to go directly to the hotel to take a shower. Oh surprise! We never made it to the hotel. The Dune started acting up.
Vincent turned into the first parking available and guess what? It was the parking of an Autopart store. We were trying to find where the problem was. Fuses? Out of Gas? Idle jet dirty? Finally the diagnostic was the gas pump and the fuse of the gas pump (which blew when testing the pump with the test light). We now had to replace it and thank god Vince had a spare one in the trunk. I told him: Don’t worry I will go to the restaurant, it is only 2 minutes walking distance and told them that we might not be able to join them. When I came back oh surprise Vincent was not alone. John, Keith and Tom (from Tijuana Kustoms) were with him…Tom kept filming everything (and laugh), Keith was taking pictures and John was there for moral support. The three of them mucked Vincent with the complexity on how he installed all the pieces (not really accessible). They were mucking him and Vincent was almost only laughing (and he has so hot). Few minutes later, Vince and Rob arrived with the emergency kit. Wow, nice friendly relationship between the guys. By having everything on video, Vincent has not finished being teased by everyone. Finally, everything was fixed and the guys stayed with us until the end. Wow, you may not know how much we are graceful, we loved you already but now it is even stronger…you are way too much guys.
During the dinner we were talking to see how we could be joining the gang to North Carolina in October….we will really do our best to be there with them.
Again thank you Keith, John, Tom, Vince and Rod and all the others who were waiting for us at the restaurant…you are really great people and we are blessed to be your friends.

hmmmmm. I have very mixed feelings here. When we got to the show Winnie was the first one out of the bunch to shake my hand. She asked if we were part of the Manx club. I told her we were not and asked if it was ok to park. She told me that was fine and that bruce was going to talk and do a q&a. Great! well after that went i I asked Winnie about the Manx club. She told me that you do not need an original Manx to be in the club but that it will restrict us from any club rides. ok..... Now im looking at a bunch of pics of the ride with several non manx buggies.....? |

That is so unfortunate... I wish I had paid more attention. I feel bad.
The rides was not restricted to Manx cars or even Manx members. There was a Manx member only diner but that was the only Manx only part.
There was definatly miss-communication between you and Winnie and for that I feel bad... I wished I could have shed some info.
I'm oblivious to the conversation you and Winnie had but she may have been making reference to other Manx only events in the works (ie. Manx on the Bank in the Outter Banks)
Just to clarify:
- You don't need an original Manx to be part of the Manx club
- You don't need to be a member to partake to the ride in Carlisle
Again, I feel bad about your experience... |

Glad to hear it!
Not sure what you mean by "LI" but we're planning to have a quick stop at Tom's shop. We're leaving here at 6:30 am tomorrow morning. |

Rattler, yeah there was definitely some miscommunication there. You don't need a real Manx to be in the club, and if you ARE in the club, whether or not you have a real Manx doesn't affect ANYTHING at all, you have 100% club privileges either way. You also didn't need to be in the club OR have a real Manx to go on the ride yesterday. I join Vincent in regretting that you thought you weren't able to join us. The Manx Club is open to everyone with a street legal Dune Buggy.
Vince and France, thanks for the great pictures! Do you think you could email me a zip file with the full size images for me to keep? At the very least the ones with me and/or my Manxter in them (I'd like them all if possible).
Ron, glad you made it home safe and sound, it was great seeing everyone again and hope to see you all in October.
We just made it home ourselves about 6:15. Finally got caught by a little rain, so the Manxter needs a good bath now but other than that everything went great. I'll be posting plenty of pictures in the coming days.
Ugh.. back to reality now.

Small day today. After putting everything back in its place in the dune buggy, we left for the show around 9:15. It really a quiet day as everyone is busy packing up to head back home. The Americans are not off tomorrow. We took the opportunity to talk with Winnie, Bruce, Rod, John, Keith, Tom, Chris, Adam, Kathleen and Tom. Naturally, yesterday’s incident was still a subject of discussion. The weather was iffy but when the sun came out, it was really hot. Small anecdote, Kathleen and Tom are giving Winnie and Bruce a ride but the problem is that their truck only has 2 seats. We don’t not know who ended up ridding in Kathleen’s buggy in the back of the truck…
Early afternoon we retired back to the hotel, Vincent took the advantage to reconnect a wire for the GPS (see pictures). It probably got disconnected during last night’s repairs. Tom (Tijuana Kustom) can probably confirm that by looking at his video footage, hi hi hi. The remaining of the afternoon was very quiet. For diner, we drove to the Olive Garden in Mechanicsburg. Back to the hotel around 8:00pm and got everything ready for the drive home tomorrow.

Our first (and hopefully not last trip) to Carlisle was a blast. I only wish we had more time to spend there, but we had a school play on Sunday afternoon. I had a real nice camp fire chat with Tom, John (I think?), Keith, and Adam Saturday night and I do appreciate all of the advice as we start our build. My kids were excited to meet Bruce and we enjoyed the Q&A.
James got his first ride in a Manx thanks to Adam! He was grinning ear to ear, thanks Adam and congratulations.

Thank you France and Vincent for taking the time to post your pictures and stories of your trip to Carlisle. Also I agree with surfnc to have Bruce Meyers ride in your buggy and the time to talk to him "Priceless!" _________________ "The simplest of outdoor adventures - the most treasured memories." - Bruce Meyers
