It looks like a sticker indicating that the engine is a VW of Canada remanufactured engine. They don't rebuild engines anymore, and I've heard both good and not-so-good things about the rebuilds.

You people are great! Maybe that's why we have such good compression
(176 x 4) too bad we have other problems

remanufactured 18 years ago?

How do you see it was remanufactured 18 years ago?
Oh I'm not blaming Canada for anything-- my other issues are with a hesitation surging too rich fuel mixture.
If anything I'm happy to see the sticker-- it sat for 8 years before we got it so maybe there aren't too many miles on that rebuild.

There's a date stamp on the lower sticker: 06993, meaning 1993... 18 years ago. _________________ ~Kamz

South Park, The Movie
"Sheila: Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Sharon: Should we blame the government?
Liane: Or blame society?
Dads: Or should we blame the images on TV?
Sheila: No, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their beady little eyes
And flapping heads so full of lies
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: We need to form a full assault
Everyone: It's Canada's fault!
Sharon: Don't blame me
For my son Stan
He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
Liane: And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself!
Sheila: Well, blame Canada
Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Copy Guy: They're not even a real country anyway
Ms. McCormick: My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer rich and true,
Instead he burned up like a piggy on the barbecue
Everyone: Should we blame the matches?
Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
Sheila: heck no!
Everyone: Blame Canada
Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hullabaloo
Liane: And that bitch Anne Murray too
Everyone: Blame Canada
Shame on Canada
For...
The smut we must stop
The trash we must bash
The Laughter and fun
Must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before somebody thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus!!!!" _________________ Tencentlife said,

Not quite D. Those engines were rebuilt under contract by Kenworth in Toronto but yeah, the quality seems to have been a little uneven... _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

I had one of those stickers on my 1984. The rebuild was excellent, and I never had any internal engine problems the entire 100K miles I drove it, no head problems, no nothing. Count yourself lucky! There's a reason your compression is good. |

Can anyone decipher the date code on my VWoC sticker?
This is the same engine where I found a loose nut roaming around inside the failed and internally damaged water pump. I replaced the pump only to have a water jacket seal blow out a short time later.
I could NOT get this engine to ever run right. When I bought it (with and in the van) it had two extra quarts of oil in the crankcase and smoked like a mutha. I drained the extra oil and smoking stopped but roaming nuts and gushing gaskets was enough for me to not trust this engine. I pulled it and scrapped the case to prevent further headaches. YRMV |

My 1.9 GEX has 50k and just took us to Oregon and back twice in the last 3 weeks without incident. So far so good. |

Roaming nuts? I can see how that would be an issue. _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)

What'd you end up throwing in the weekender? You saw the Westy at yank a part right? It has the brown interior like yours, hope you got some stuff off of it while you could. _________________ Current VWs: 2001 2.0 New Beetle 250k
