NewB here! Just puchased a 1982 Westfalia auto. I know, slow, but I love it. Don't have any manual and I look every where for instructions in order to run the stove, water and very carefully the electrical hook up outside the van to the shore power. This westy was park for a long time and the camping was not use in a while. Every thing on the westy looks great, the engine runs great, tranny and brakes all good. So, maybe some hints from you veterans would be very much appreciated in how to make sure all is up to snuff. Thank you. |

I'll be the first to say it: Change your fuel lines...make that your first priority before anything else. Do it ASAP. _________________ 89 Westy

I bought an automatic because of all the vans for sale it was in the best condition by far! It has been a great van! All my cars have been manual...I don't mind just stepping on the gas!

Welcome to Vanagonitis. Don't worry sometime in the future your wife will be so in love with them that she'll take on a manual. Easy and my personal opinion is more power available (might be my illusion). All my vehicles have my 4 or 5 speed manual 4 cylinder and they've all been zoom zoom
Get a Bentley and if you look in Samba you might find the right Owner's Manual. I'm sure I saw some Haynes Air Cooled the other day. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Welcome: Open the gas valve on the propane tank(looks like a water tap). Wait a couple minutes and try starting the stove. You won't blow up as the gas is a fairly low pressure. Most tanks have [/u]some propane in them.
Put a gallon of water in the water tank and switch on the faucet.Listen for the pump trying to deliver the water. It's under the sink in the cupboard or inside the water tank depending on your vehicle. If you hear the pump but it doesn't deliver water try priming the line or suck on the faucet to help draw the water.
The refrigerator is another epic endeavor so search "Dometic" or refer to the stickies and read it all.
Good luck _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"
