Can someone tell me what size the front axle nut on a 63 vw bug is. I have looked everywhere and cannot find the size. Even the catalogs I look in do not have the information either. Thanks.

I haven't worked on an early one in ages, so my "guess" of 27mm is probably bad memory.

aren't they 36mm, like the rear. it is has a while since i took mine off i admit.

You remembered right, they're 27mm.
In a pinch, 1 1/16" is almost an exact match, 27mm = 1.0629".
You do need two of them to adjust the wheel bearings too, and they have to be on the thin side, about the same width as a nut.
jaydog, if you're asking what the thread size of the spindle is, that I'm not sure of.

Thank you. I was asking about the actual nut not the thread. I wanted to buy the right size and not waste money trying to figure it out. Thanks everyone.

the left side nuts are not the same as the right side nuts.

CAn you guys tell me the proper die to chase the front axle on a stock 1964 axle? I buggered up the threads (just a little) and now I cannot get the nut(s) started. Thanks

Would not use a die that will cut mushed over thread material, making for weaker or loose thread.
