Hahaha, I hear ya about the snow man. The warmer temperatures this past week took a lot of the snow away up here in Houghton...thank goodness. It's nice to see bare ground again. This Yooper winter is really dragging out this year, isn't it? _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

My bad guy's! kind of got out of the world of VW's, and started short course off-road racing, in places like Crandon and Bark River. ALL my money and time has been put into that 79 f-150 that we had to fully cage, etc.
BUT... as soon as the snow goes away ( if it ever does) we'll dig this bad boy out and bring it into the garage. Im pretty excited about getting this thing all dolled up again and cruising it. My Dad is still pretty jacked about it, and Im ready to start working on a VW again instead of all these Fords.
Look for pics and progress in the next couple months!
Thanks for all the help guys. _________________ 1966 Baja Bug

If you don't quite get what I said, look up gravestone rubbing on the interwebz. It's basically the same thing in reverse. You'll end up with a perfectly readable m-code plate. Or remove the plate, get a big glob of silly putty and press it into the back of the plate. Either way, it should be fairly simple to get the right numbers off the plate without having to strip the paint (which would be the easiest). |

Note that you wrote down several of the numbers incorrectly, I can tell that even from your blurry pic.
09 2 looks like 09 3
471 looks like 071
2628 looks like 2613 (I think) |

Take a piece of paper and a pencil with a real sharp point, a piece of artists chalk, or a piece of burnt wood. Put the paper over the m code plate and gently rub side to side. You should end up with a readable impression of the VIN (the number in the lower right corner that isn't too readable right now). |

what about for the rear? With the redux boxes, how does that work?
Ill gladly pop those redux boxes out and throw em in to the baja if they are not needed. |
A straight axle kit is the most straight forward conversion. It's simple and relatively easy. Check out the lowering thread in the stickies at the top of the page.
Reduction boxes will add ground clearance for the baja, but they don't do well with the abuse of an off road car. I would suggest selling them to another bus owner for use in a bus. Then build a proper long travel suspension for your baja. _________________ nothing |

First, congrats on the single cab. I wish my single cab that much paint on its nose. I have a 63 ruby red single cab with black BRM's and they look good but I've been thinking of going to the Randars. I have some detailed fuchs Im going to try now. |

Rims, I want the Rader style, or the BLM's, but he wants 5 spokes. I hate those. I'll talk him out of those though.
the next question, is to lower or not?

If you do anything other than stock rims, you need to lower the truck. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.
And, BRM's are the wheels you want. BLM is the Bureau of Land Management. |
My thoughts exactly. BRM's! thats it, I was in a hurry and couldnt think. I do like those though.
Drop spindles and discs in front, what about for the rear? With the redux boxes, how does that work?

Is the M Code Plate behind the seat missing like the one behind the engine? Cool color, infrequent. The white was added by a PO. Commercials were solid colors unless special ordered. |

Nice score, and looking forward to seeing some progress shots. Can I be the first to vote for all red and stock ride height? |

Congratulations. I did notice 2 things, however.
-The camper shell's on crooked.
-The torque converter's on the front seat.
Otherwise it looks real nice.
Keep us posted on the progress. Nice single.

I've heard nothing but good things about the CSP disc brake kits. They're pricey, but supposedly worth the money. I believe they have one that will fit stock bus wheels too. |

Thanks Everett. My Father and I already have been butting heads on the way to go, but its ultimatly his. So it'll be treated to a soda blast, rust repair, and a solid paint job. Red&white are the colors. Rims, I want the Rader style, or the BLM's, but he wants 5 spokes. I hate those. I'll talk him out of those though.

I'll be taking care of the engine rebuild, ill just give the baja's engine a topend quick, and a port and polish. 1600dp.
He wants Disc brakes, who makes these?
We'll switch it to 12volt, do up the interior, etc. My dads real excited, and im excited to see him finnaly excited about a VW. _________________ 1966 Baja Bug
