does anyone know what substance people put on airfilters for more filtration?
im changing my orignal canister that holds oil to filter the air to a regular cone style air filter on my solex carb.
any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Nothing works better than the oil-bath cleaner you've got.
If all you're concerned about is the appearance rather than function, then by all means get the pretty chrome filter. If you absolutely MUST go this route, cleaning depends on what filter you've got. A real K+N requires cleaning and filter-charger oil. I use the K+N's, but really don't believe they flow so much better than any other filter after the oil is added. 10-20HP gains are a farce.
If you get the cheaper 2 stage filter with a paper outer and foam inner, regular cleaning of the foam is also advised. 30 weight oil is fine for those. The paper filters are replaceable.
On any aftermarket filter, wheel bearing grease on all sealing surfaces makes the filters more efficient.
Again, the Germans knew what they were doing when designing that oil bath cleaner. It does a much better job than any aftermarket air cleaners. Plus, it's easy to clean, lasts forever. |

Ditto, they are far superior than the Taiwan chrome crap. |

and they have a built in velocity stack for a bit of added performance... keep the oil bath. just b/c it looks "fast" doesnt mean it is... |
