You could just put a couple of stainless steel carriage bolts in the holes, too, with nylon washers for water-tightness.

Guys,

Need some help. Just picked up a skybox 18.

Now I need the rack. I have an 85 Westfalia pop top.

I can see (on this thread) that I need three pairs of the Yakima Wide Body Mounts - to drill into the pop top.

I also can also see that I need three -at least - 58" long crossbars.

But what I haven't been able to determine is what towers I need to attach to the wide body mounts. Will Q towers work?

Anything else I need (again, all I have is a pop top and a skybox).

Thanks so much!

1a Yakima towers work great. You can find them on craigslist/facebook.

Also buy these brackets instead of the Yakima ones

I’m intrigued! But that link doesn’t work.

Okay a few things:

1) Omg this site is so inexpensive. Cheapest truck mirrors I've seen yet. $100 cheaper than cip1.com in fact.

2) What is this roof system? So confused. Does anyone use it? It's flat and square.... would a skybox even mount on it? For those that use it do you mount three bars across or two? Why is it so cheap haha.

Q towers may work on a tin top with the right clips but I can't imagine they'd work with a pop-top. My guess is that Yakima will only recommend the 1A Raingutter towers.

Two bars will work fine. The Sideloader mounts are also fine (2 bolts, carriage bolt heads are not exposed, slightly cleaner, either alternative works fine).

Skybox 18, Yakima 1A Raingutter towers, two bars on sideloaders...

Skybox 18, basket, etc. on 4 pairs of sideloaders and 1A Raingutter towers (too heavy)...

Those are just the "artificial gutters" that your rack mounts attach to. You'll need 1 pair for each crossbar. Not so cheap now, eh Wink

Two bars with feet is $281 which is comparable to 4 Yakima 1A rain gutter towers , $199 or so and two bars...are they $40 each? Then add the artificial rain gutters.

Sorry for the broken link!

But yeah so what i bought was

3x pairs of CVC artificial brackets.
3x pairs lf Yakima 1A towers
3x round Yakima bars. I think around 54-60"

With that extra weight i bought the Gowesty Hd strut assist kit.

That sounds like my progression...it continued until it progressed to a high top...
