Island Cruisers auto rentals has survived hurricane irene but just barely! we are located in the epicenter of the hurricanes devastation. We took nearly 2 feet of water in the shop (and we are 5 feet above grade) roughly a 10 foot stormsurge. Worst they have seen here since the 30's. Lots of inventory loss about a 20 year collection of vw drivetrain parts. We are planning on attending the event as long as the road to the mainland becomes open again as it is shceduled oct 6th at the moment. We still have our running buggys they were amongst the things we could save as we stayed through the storm, i cannot say that for everything though. We do still have plenty of parts and a few rentals available for anyone that may need our services. You can contact us at islandcruisersinc.com or give us a call at the shop 252-987-2097 otherwise we hope to see you at the show! Eric, Val & Day |

I'm glad to hear y'all made out ok. I was wondering how things went down there. We rented a buggy from you the week before that hurricane hit.

Want to attend the MOTB event but don't have a buggy? Need some minor repairs at the event? I just spoke with Valerie & Eric Stump of Island Cruisers, Inc. & Hatteras Island Performance about their buggy rental and VW repair shop on Hatteras island near where we are having the event. They have several buggies that they rent, including a couple of real Meyer's buggies. (I saw a Manx & a Towed or Towed clone on their lot.) They also sell VW parts and have a repair shop on the premisses. Typically they do not rent buggies over night, but they are willing to make an exception for Manx Club members attending the event. Their only request is that you keep them on the paved roads as they are not set up for driving on the sand, narrow tires and not enough clearance, but you could still participate on the street cruise. Here is their contact information:

Thanks Tom. Then it's official, Days Inn Ocean Front will be the place to stay.

There were 10 registered for the event. That number is up to 27. I don't think there will be that much time to spend at the hotel, with the sign in Friday night, the runs on Sat, the bonfire and supper on Sat night and breakfast on Sunday. This will be similar to the west coast events, only missing a few features. See you there. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

I am a Front Desk Manager @ the Travelodge Hotel in Kill Devil Hills (252-441-0411) and have set up a 15% discount for Manx on the Banx participants if interested. We are not ocean front (across the street from the beach) so our rates will be extremely competitive... we are also rated #3 on the beach by Trip Advisor.com
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 14th.

By the way... there are 2 Days Inns on the beach... Orville Wright and Mariner... both ocean front. Might want to double check which hotel before booking. |

Hi Scott,
We appreciate that. Maybe we can work something out a little earlier for next year.
Thanks,

BTW, We are up to 40+ registered to attend. It looks like we will have 20 - 25 buggies as well.
We will be taking late registration at the Friday night check in at the Outer Banks Brewery. (You can also register for Manx Club membership then as well.)
Thanks,

I'm still trying to get mine titled. If I can get it taken care of by then, I'll be there with it. If not, I'll probably drive down in the Astro van just because I can. |

Hi All,
It looks like we are going to have good weather for the event lower 60's in the morning and upper 60's for the high.
I would recommend bringing clothes so that you can layer and take off some when it warms up and put them back on later in the day.
Things to bring: Mosquito spray, sunscreen, hat, towels, wind breaker and a beach chair for the bonfire. I would also bring a tire gauge if you intend to go on the beach run.
It looks like we are going to have approx 55 people attending and about 20+ buggies.
It should be a great time!! Looking forward to seeing you all here.

I'd like to see some too since I didn't make it down. I got it registered & insured, but wasn't able to get it completely ready for an inspection in time. |

A common question asked by many attendees was "where are the event T-shirts?". Due to a logistical issue there were no event shirts available for the screaming masses Wait no longer, they are finally here!
Visit www.manxonthebanx.com for details.
Enjoy.

Has there been a date established for 2012 yet?
The wife and I vacation the Banx each year the week after the VW Fast Times at Farmington show on the third weekend of October, (spend the last week of October at Buxton), but may alter a week earlier to include this event too. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
