Does anyone know if a type 3 throttle switch will fit a 73 F.I 1.7 914? |

Doubt it but you can rebuild yours with a new board...

Don't know if this helps, but this is what I found looking through a 1996 Bosch catalog:
Porsche '73 914 1970cc takes 0 280 120 032 throttle switch
Porsche '73 914 1679cc takes 0 280 120 021 throttle switch
(7/72 to 10/73)
VW '73 T3 1584cc takes 0 280 120 024 throttle switch
VW '72 T3 1584cc takes 0 280 120 019 throttle switch
VW ('70 to '71) T3 1584cc takes 0 280 120 040 throttle switch
VW ('68 to '69) T3 1584cc takes 0 280 120 001 throttle switch
I have no idea what is different between these, but thought this might help you identify what you have / need...

The difference I believe is the amount of resistance vs position each unit has. Or volts delivered. Not interchangable unless you change all related parts like ECU, Head temp sensor MAP etc.
Best to try to find a good used one or rebuild the one you have. _________________ When I set my timing, why do I flush, then take a pee? |

It switches (binary--either zero or infinite resistance) and pulses; it is not a rheostat or potentiometer. If it mechanically fits and can be adjusted, and has the correct pin-out, it will work. Just make sure the various T3 designs (fuel cutoff, accel pulses, full throttle stop, etc) match what your car originally had. |

a type III (squareback) board will slip right in to the 914's 1.7 throttle mechanism housing. the board itself is identical to that on a squareback, even down to the part number. the only real differance is the throttle housing is different for the 914 1.7 verses the typeIII,
So simply remove the board from the type III switch housing and transplant it into the 914 1.7 housing!
the 914 2.0 liter board is however different.
I believe repros are being made of both boards now (914 1.7 and 2.0) |

Old thread, but in case anyone is looking, I discovered this error in the Bosch documentation (repeated in many other sources as well), for the 70/'71 Type 3 part number. Confusingly, both these Bosch parts carry the same VW part number 311 906 111C, which makes no sense since they are NOT interchangeable!
The correction is in bold below.
