You'll need to post a lot more details. Does the starter motor turn at all or do you get just a "click"? I've had automatics with bad neutral safety switches where a similar thing would happen (just a click with each turn of the key until it would finally start right up).

There is a switch in the shifter console in automatics that will not allow you to start in gear.
Test that switch...it may be going bad.

Here are a couple of other questions to help with the troubleshooting:

How old is your battery and what is the resting voltage before you try to start it for the first time? These are important factors to try to troubleshoot your starting dilemma.

Does the engine try to crank over with each turn of the key, or do you sometimes get no feedback at all when they key is turned? I ask this because it could be that you have an ignition switch that is on its way out.

If you can get the van started, check the voltage at the alternator and at the battery posts as well to look for possible charging system issues. Be sure that all electrical connections at the battery are clean and tight.

The grounds are equally important, check the battery ground strap as well as the grounds coming from the front of the transaxle to the chassis and from the left (drivers) side of the engine to the body in the engine compartment.

Ive noticed when I wiggle the shifter in park it will start. I also have a hunch my problem is related to the shifter because of this.

Do I have to remove the shifter console or something? Thank a lot.

Had the same issue with my automatic 91. It too was the neutral safety switch.

Here is a link with some photos.

Awesome, thank you. Did you have to replace the switch or did cleaning/adjusting fix it for you?

I am asking the same question SCM have asked. Does the engine cranks every time you turn the key to the start position ? If it does, it has nothing to do with the neutral switch. It could be that it is not holding fuel pressure. Trying turning the key to on and listen to the fuel pump, when it stop, turn the key off and again on. Do this a few times to allow the fuel pressure to build up, then try to start the engine.

Don't thank me, I just remember the post and did a SEARCH....deprivation is the one who took the time to post pictures.

FWIW-I just had to clean/adjust mine.

As always, your results may vary.
