I've never used EMPI axles, but juging by the quality of their other parts, and judging by the good quality of sway away parts I would go with sway away. Again, haven't used either though

the only thing is the sway a way axles were used for racing and Im not sure if it has taken their toll on the axles. And one end on each axle has a little spline damage from hitting the stubs but thats pretty common.

Are new sway aways out of the question? I think you'll get what you pay for. It would suck alot more to buy 2 sets of empi axles than to buy 1 set of sway away i think

New sway a way axles are not out of the question, Im just trying not to spend that much. And I think the 17 1/2 length works for me better than the 17 1/4 that sway makes. new empis are 160$ plus free shipping and sways are 189$. So I guess its not that much of a price difference. and the used ones were 120 plus shipping.

The reason for the upgrade is that I converted to 091 bus tranny and 2x3 arms a while ago. When I got the trans I was under the impression that I could use stock bus axles with this setup but I now know I need the 3 rib tranny to make the stock axles work with the 2x3 arms. I would have went 3x3 or bigger if I knew I had to get new axles...oh well..

I just bought complete thing axles off Ebay for $54 + $17 shipping.
When they arrived they were brand new EMPI in the box ready to go.
Don't normally like a lot of their products.... But when you are on a severely tight budget......

So far they are great, bolted right up and are thicker than the type 2 conversion axles I already had.

Time will tell.

Well I think Ive made up my mind on the axles. cb performance has them for 186$ for sways with promo free shipping. Plus theyre made in usa. Who cares about the 26 dollar difference I gotta support OUR economy, not chinas... Twisted Evil

I am using EMPI axles and Their 930 CVs on my Manxter Dual Sport. So far no problems with either.
Trying to get parts from SwayAway at this time is difficult. There are dealers that have been waiting months for shipment to arrive.
I am also hearing there has been more of the axle breaking in off road racing.
I was leery of using EMPI stuff myself, but keep hearing from people using it in limited off road racing classes and having no problems with any breakage.
Limited engine class car are very hard on parts because most of the drivers never let off when going through the rough stuff and jumps. You have to keep the RPMs up to be in the power band of the engine.

You may suprised that SwayAway is using steel from China.
There not to many steel foundries left in the U.S.
Go by a crankshaft for and american car and see how many are still made in America.

I hear that and have experienced it first hand. I used to work as a machinist for a shop that repaired caterpillar equipement and it was stamped on the equipement "made in USA" then we cut the thing in half for a repair and there it was "China" casted on the inside of this huge steel part. That was the day I lost faith in the term "made in USA" and realized it just means assembled in USA.

Most empi products are good for the price and there is probably a very small number of items that will fail or be defective. You probably get what you pay for.. Thats why Im going with the swa a way axles. Just ordered them

I have been pretty satisfied with the latest wave of new generation empi products. the fan shrouds and stuff are a pain the ass... but for the most part, it works pretty well. I have their axles and cvs on my car, and have liked them so far... I have been urged to stay away from the race prepped 930s, because of this I bought the "stock" 930s they have been bitchin so far... I'll let you know when I break em Wink
