n my way from Maryland to Syncro Solstice the drivers power mirror decided to leave the base. Luckily I saw it start to flop and was able to grab it before it decorated the highway at 70mph. I could only hold it against the window frame until the next exit.

When I arrive at my first days stop (friends place South of St Louis) I was able to see that the internal sleeve post had snapped off of the mirror housing. This piece is cast metal.

Because the piece is hollow in the center for the wiring I decided I could pull the wires and then use a bolt from the bottom up into the mirror housing. I did have to drill a big hole in the housing base to get enough clearance inside for the nylock nut.

It took a few hours of thinking and parts runs and several tries but in the end I saved the mirror. And I do not need the power function.

Nice catch and nice fix.

I guess I should bookmark this post since I may have this in my future.

I had the same thing happen and I used this as a guide to fix it. Additionally you can buy bolts with holes drilled through the center, which makes this even easier.
