One of the rare US beetles, already with high US bumpers, combined with heart (little egg) taillights, just in front the bumper. (very hard visable lights, but stock) |

some doubts about it being a convertible up to 1957 - position of the windshield wipers and the narrow distance of their mountings looks like a later model _________________ 7/58 Beetle Cabrio RHD |

Road sign at right is US Route 99. This was the main north/south highway in the west, going from Calexico, CA (at Mexico border) thru Oregon and Washington all the way up to the Canada border. Much of Interstate 5 was built in its place by the mid-to late 1960's. |

Yep, though in the central valley of California, the old 99 is still there. Trivia: We all know I-5 is boring through the valley, but one big reason is that it was designed in the late '60s/early '70s, when the plan was to increase speed limits to 80 mph from 70. This was before the gas crunch made us retreat to (ugh!) 55. But with a safety margin, those roads were designed to be taken at 90-95 mph. Banking, curve radius, lane width, straightness, interchanges... all were designed for high speed. At our speeds of today, it feels like you are standing still! And who doesn't want to get through Harris Ranch as fast as possible? _________________ Current Fleet:
