Just wondered if anyone had a source for front backing plates for the brakes. Stock 86.

Thanks,
Brian.

have they rusted away? this is normal they did on mine, i just discarded them as they dont do any thing, apart from collect stones in and make an ear pearcing sound, but that is more of a syncro thing,

i think that bricwerks (in the uk) have had them remade, not as moulded as per the vw items but more of a section of stainless steel plate cut to shape. which will be stronger than the pressing from vw.

Thanks as always for the info!

Van-cafe responded to my email with their link. Dust covers as opposed to backing plates.

Yes mine are rusted away and yes I know they do little but since I am replacing calipers this spring I thought I'd throw on new dust covers.

It just looks better...to who? Me.

Thanks again,
Brian.

Just curious, are you staying stock or going to a different front setup?

I am staying stock for now. My tires are still in good shape and when they need to be replaced I'll look at the options for a bigger wheel and tire set up. For now it meets my needs. The braking isn't like modern cars but I drive a 33000 kg truck at work and it has stopping issues as well. I just drive accordingly.

It's entertaining when a swift stop is required in the van...I get to yell at the girls in the back..."Hold on to your stuff!!!" Makes for cheap smiles.

Brian.

According to city policy I am not allowed to exceed the posted speed limit at any time. Even with lights and siren on. Stopping a truck that's that heavy from any speed is always a challenge. Kind of like the Westy!

My co-workers are pretty quiet in the truck...my daughters in the van...not so much!

Yes re brakes >> I don't remember Westy hard brakes but for sure in the Riviera I have an adjustment period. hahaha re your familial females >>>you are outnumbered. Yeh I know about the spd limit, a lot of municpalities have automated recordings of all.
