So, I got this old truck that runs great when warmed up. I have been working on it, getting it all dialed in.
The only thing that I cannot figure out is the carb (stock).
It's getting stuck at a high idle.
The remedy is to tap the gas pedal to get it to kick down.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
P.S.
It's the only non-VW vehicle I own. It belonged to my Dad and I want to keep it.
Thank you,

Sounds normal to me, what do you expect it to do? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I am hoping to get it to just idle normally when warm instead of always needing to tap the pedal to get it to kick down.
Even when warm it will be stuck at the fast idle so on flat ground I don't even have to touch the gas pedal to keep it going.
Thank you,

Sounds like the choke isn't opening fully or the stepped cam that the idle screw sits on is sticking. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I thin it's the stepped cam sticking.
Do you know how to fix that?
Thank you,

Try backing off the choke a little. |

Yep, twist the choke heater (round thing on the side of the carb, loosen screws first) ever so slightly in the direction the choke opens. A liberal dose of carb cleaner on all the linkage followed by some lube wouldn't hurt either. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I appreciate the help. I will try that in the morning.
I have to adjust the shift linkage on the Van as well.
Thank you,
