It was very uncommon for any Bus to have a fuel gauge until 1959 unless it was an ambulance etc., so for the most part people aren't going to be in a hurry to buy one. Also, original VDO "Striped" fuel gauges are common and cheap. The earliest "striped" gauge I've had my hands on was dated 7.54, so they overlap the Barndoor time period by almost a year. Not trying to be a jerk, just explaining why there's such a limited market, the repro Dehne gauges look very nice. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

I am saving my duckets for one. It may take a little while, but I definately will have one. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

Just finished these for Split Beetles. I can make them with Barndoor style dial faces if there is sufficient interest.
The fuel tank sending unit installs in a drilled hole in the filler neck. The color copy of the period correct VDO installation instruction sheet also has a plan/diagram showing exactly where to drill the hole in a Barndoor fuel tank for stock installation of a VDO sending unit. The VDO electrical mechanism of the gauge is a lot more reliable than the mechanical mechanism of a Dehne gauge with its long, long cable, and the fuel tank sending unit installs in a less invasive, more easily reversible way than a Dehne unit, plus the sending unit is adjustable so you can set it to read empty at whatever depth you want. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:
