Wish us luck!~ going on a short jaunt down to Mayfield lake area-- been scouring TheSamba for things to bring and food to eat-- maybe a little ASWAH style cooking...not sure yet-
Just wanted to share!
Susie
Ps I think it's time to change my profile-- all routine maintenance has been done ( except for one turn signal bulb holder needs to be replaced) otherwise Butters is a driving camping machine
well he could use some stickers and a paint job would be nice... _________________ 1984 Westfalia a work in progress " Butters"

I'm sure I'm not as good of a cook as Aswah, but we do enjoy eating I checked out a good book at the Library-- " Urban Pantry" by Amy Pennington, I believe, and it's got a lot of simple recipes for small kitchen, no waste cooking.. I may try out a recipe or two.

Sounds great! Why should you eat differently when camping? This is why we have burners and fridges! Live the Life you Love and Love the Life you Live

I got that book for Christmas this year! NHer roast chicken procedure is spot on. Page 47 I believe.
I hope the weather cooperates for you. We lucked out when we went there a few weeks ago. It was so nice we took the back way home through Elbe. We had a late lunch in the train car resturant/hotel.
Don't forget to post some pics when you get back home! _________________ 89' Dove Blue Syncro Hightop |

BTW -
If you're going to Ike Kinswa you might like to know that when we were there the water in the campsites was turned off. The power was on. So bring water and a extension cord.
Water (hot water even) was working in the bathrooms.
Firewood was $5/bundle from the host. _________________ 89' Dove Blue Syncro Hightop |

yep that's where we're going Ike kinswa-- the campground info says that water is available at the west end of the park-- so that's not true?
I think we're driving the back way through eatonville, so i think also Elbe. It's just as fast for us I think-- we're coming from near Enumclaw. Isn't there a hamburger place in Elbe too-- something like Scales burgers?
Every time I pick up that book I just *know* that I have to buy it for my daughter-- she will really enjoy it. I had never heard of breaking the pits of apricots open and using them for flavoring!

I didn't know about water on the west end. I didn't look. I'm sure it's there if it's written.
I always carry my own water out of habit from when I lived in Calofornia. We have an artesian well in downtown Olympia that's perfect for filling up water cans before a trip. Damn tasty water too, and it's free! You know the deal.

Had a pretty uneventful drive to Ike Kinswa SP. Butters stalled once right after we left home. At a stop light. Started right back up, so we decided to continue on. I figured out the Ipod radio on our drive-- it was raining with a lot of standing water on the road, but visibility and handling was excellent.
Pretty good weather on Saturday- we walked around the lake and went fishing for a while-- no bites.
It was really nice to have the awning in the crummy weather in the late afternoon evening. It poured and was really gusty during the night-- I was happy that there were no leaks inside!! Oh yes, check out the stick-on battery operated lights that i bought at Costco-- they worked great-- they swivel and tilt and provide quite a lot of light. Very happy with those.
We had Chicken and Orzo, salad and homemade French bread for dinner, plus a beer. It was great to have a warm meal! Our stove is like brand new- I don't know if it had ever been used before us.
Had a deer trot through our campground in the morning.
We had a sticker after all- given to us when we bought our VW keychain from a fellow samba member.
Other than the couple stalling instances ( it stalled once agan at the gas station) and we got terrible gas mileage ( around 12!!) we were very pleased with our first camping trip!! _________________ 1984 Westfalia a work in progress " Butters" |

LOOKS GREAT! Wahoo! Camping is so damned addictive! I love fishing too! But it has been hard to fish after living in Alaska...

Poor gas milage could be a sign of bad o2 sensor. Looks like a good time. I think I might go out next weekend. |
