By the time you replace the guides, valves and springs and do a valve jobs it ends up costing just as much to rebuild stock heads as it does to buy new heads.

And then after you get them all nice and rebuilt, you find a cracked exhaust guide boss, broken spring boss, thin spark plug threads, and two exhaust studs strip out.

There is something neat about seeing those VW stamps whenever you check the valves, though.

I have a set of dual port heads rebuilt yes I did drop them off at the machine shop and did not want to drive to pick them up....270 shipped to the house for both heads. To me that way less expensive then new. But do what you feel most comfortable with. Fortunately they were rebuild able.

Does it become worth the money when you have more expensive heads that just need new guides and maybe new seats and new angles cut?

Sometimes you just need a clean up and a valve job.

What about Brothers Machine or Rimco-give them a call.

There is always listings in the classifieds as well for machine work...

Check with your local machine shop and ask what they charge for a full rebuild. Locally my machining options blow. ONLY place I could find to rebuild wanted about $250/head and since they only had “one guy” that did ACVW stuff it takes forever. This did include opening for 90.5’s though. I opted for new.

At $250 for a rebuild...yes I would go new also. As mentioned @ 135 each is hard to pass up on rebuilt heads.
