Hey all,
I have convinced myself to get rid of my,what i find completely useless wardrobe cabinet in my restoration of my '69 westy, I am leaving the rack and roll for sure and everything else, so i need some ideas for filling that void with a tasteful but functional cabinet, keeping in mind i only want to go to the bottom of the rear passenger side window with whatever i end up doing...
Later and thanks |

Words that don't play well in the same sentence
I've seen the top cut off to below the window and a trap door installed on the top, still a semi functional cabinet. Or remove it completely and widen the bed.
It's your bus, do what you like, but you can't call it a "restoration" if you do that. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Busdaddy suggested what I had in mind. It would make a nice counter to set stuff on while camping with lots of storage underneath. It would also help eliminate the ENORMOUS blind spot early bay camper's have.
Except... don't do it. Instead, remove the closet completely and use it as a template to build your own thing. Then sell the unharmed cabinet to someone who wants/needs it. It's not like they're making any more of them. Plus it would allow you to do exactly what you want, rather than make something work and function in a way it wasn't really meant to. _________________ 1970 Westfalia Pop-Top |

My wife and I always found the 3/4 Westy bed a bit cramped, and I too never found any good use for the wardrobe closet. I decided to remove the cabinet completely and take the bed full width. It took a little fabrication of the passenger side bed hinge and a new bed cabinet, but I was building all new of those anyway. If you are handy enough to build a new cabinet to replace the wardrobe, you are handy enough to go to a full width bed. Bear in mind that new foam will run you over $400 for that bed though _________________ Ken

Or just find someone parting out a 74-75. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

You don't have to. Take it out and post it for sale in the Samba Classifieds for a reasonable price, and it'll likely be gone within a week. _________________ 1970 Westfalia Pop-Top |

If some one was willing to pay for the shipping, I would certainly give it to an appreciative person, but I have to think that cost would be far more than any one trying to get a new fab built locally or one that is in a lot better shape... Mine has some de-lam going on at the bottom, but my offer does stand for any one as soon as I can template it |
