Wanted to ask first. Is there a particular way to separate the fan shroud at the dipstick tube so as not to damage the cases? Do I tap it through? Thanks.

This is a T4 engine? Right?

The fan housing need to be removed from the vehicle, the alt bracket must be off, there are numerous 6mm philips head screws holding the two halves together, the dip stick protrudes through both halves, the majority of the time the dip stick tube will remain with the rear half, sometimes the halves separate with ease, others you would thick JB Weld had been used to secure the tube. You do not want to pry or beat the housing, a little Kroil or Liquid wrench will help with the tube slipping out.

Thanks. Yes, it is a T-4 engine and it is out and everything has been removed minus the dipstick tube area. I figured beating/prying would be bad and end in alot of crying. It is better to ask and make sure I am doing it right then to start looking in the classifieds for shrouds. Thanks again and enjoy the weekend.

Jack

You can try a little tapping on the tube to help dislodge it, but no beating.

After you get it off with some gentle taps, you may consider have it bead blasted and then treat it with something like this

but paint will also work.

Why do you want to split the fan housing. It's not a very necessary thing to do.

It's not very difficult to do, and if you bead blast and paint it, it defines the look of the entire engine compartment. Why wouldn't you do it?

I want to clean the old oil and grime from the outside and the inside. I get a burned smell when I run the heat. It may the HE's but while I have it out and apart, I figured I would clean where I could.
